Oct-20-13  bubuli55: Complicated meddle gaym :)
Oct-20-13  The Last Straw: Ouch! But nice game by So.
Oct-20-13  lakers4sho: wisli bletz his wey out to a win agen
Oct-20-13  cro777: Was this part of Wesley's preparations for the Tata Steel 2014 as well?

At the Tata Steel 2013, Van Wely was successful in this line of the Nimzo Indian Rubinstein with an anti-Nimzo move 5.Ne2, defeating GM Ivan Sokolov with the black pieces.

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e3 O-O 5. Ne2 d5 6. a3 Be7 7. cxd5 exd5

There is a wide choice of moves here. 8.g3 (Janssen - Van Wely) and 8.b4 (Aronian - Van Wely) are the most popular. Sokolov against Van Wely at the Tata Steel 2013 chose 8.h3.

Wesley prepared for this game 8.Nf4 and after 8...a5 9. Bd3 c6 10. O-O Na6 11. f3 Nc7 introduced a novelty 12. Bd2 (the main move here is 12.Bc2).

White aims for a very solid position out of the opening, hoping to outplay the opponent in the rest of the game (it is not easy for Black to settle on a concrete plan). Very well played game by Wesley.

Oct-20-13  Mudphudder: Wow. Pure finesse.
Oct-20-13  iking: both blundered at crunch time last night .... but it was Wesley who found the better move, and wins in blitzing style of play. Wesley slays VanVely.

Oct-21-13  bubuli55: It was only after 40... Bxf3 that the game cleared up who's winning. Whey! 2Complicated meddle game for me. Congratulations on the win, Wesley
Oct-21-13  whiteshark: cb coverage with game annotations (in German) http://www.chessbase.de/Home/TabId/...
Oct-21-13  SugarDom: Nice novelty by wesly
Oct-21-13  cro777: "So held a slight edge through most of the game but it was really a blunder by Van Wely that allowed the Filipino to capitalize." (ChessBase News)

This is typical for the anti-Nimzo line (5.Ne2, the play reverts to a Queen's Gambit structure) prepared by Wesley. White has a slight but stable advantage.

Loek Van Wely: "I guess I underestimated his chances. I could have made a draw in timetrouble but my plan b7-b5-b4 only helped him."

Position after 29.Qd3

29...b5?! This plan with the b-pawn advance was wrong (Black should have played 29...Nc6). Wesley reacted well. After
