Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-29-14  paavoh: Eljanov sure knows his transitions to winning endgames.
Apr-29-14  capafischer1: Nice simplification into an endgame.
Apr-30-14  Gnappo83: After 16.Bd4 it seems better to hit the target previously searched (e4) with 16...fxe4 17.Bxe4 leaving the c5 square for the knight. 16...c5 gives White a confortable endgame : queenside is blocked for Black, the d6 pawn is weak. Even 19...Bxd3 20.Qxd3 Ne5 seems not beautiful for 21.Qxd6 Nexc4 22.bxc4 Qxc3 23.Qxb6 Qxc2 24.Qxc5! - and on 24... Rac8 there's Qd5+ followed by Qd7 gaining the b7 pawn. I liked 23.Nf5, too. The Queen is forced to go in g6, because of 23...Qd7 (f.e.) 24.Qxf4 Re6 25.Rd1 Rf6 26.g4! Raf8 27.Ne4! and now Black is forced to give away the exchange with 27...Rxf5 28.gxf5 Rxf5 29.Qh6 Nxf3+ 30.Kh1 Interesting was 24.Nh4 Qf6 25.Ne4!playing against the weakness of Ne5 and the 8th rank: 25...Qxh4 26.Nxd6 Rad8? (but 26...Qf6 doesn't seem better for 27.Nxe8) and now 27.Rxe5! Rxe5 28.Nf7+ Kg7 29.Qxd8 Qxd8 30.Nxd8 Re7 31.Ke2 Eljanov played very well the endgame: 28.Qc3! is quite forcing. Black tried 29...Qd1+ because of 29...Rxf4 30.Qg3+!
