Sep-22-15  stst: No breathing room!!
28............N(e)g3+ (and forks Q too)
29.hxg3 Qh5 (almost)
30.Bh2 Qxh2# (supported by the remaining N)
Sep-22-15  schachfuchs: Pretty easy - more monday stuff :-)

Nevertheless I'm looking forward to the final analysis (by patzer2) what was the decisive mistake and if white could avoid the disaster after 27...Ne4

Sep-22-15  jith1207: <schachfuchs> me too as usual looking forward to patzer2's analysis. Blame the poster for that.
Sep-22-15  morfishine: I became hypnotized with <28...Qh5> since no White reply seems to suffice

At which point its a hard grind for black, but probably winning...

Sep-22-15  patzer2: For today's Tuesday puzzle (28...?), the Black King is hemmed in by his own pieces and his other pieces are out of play and unavailable for the defense of the h-file.

Meanwhile White's pieces are actively available for mate-in-three. Black begins with <28...Ng3+!> to clear the h-file for a second forced check, and it's a done deal after 29. hxg3 Qh5+ 30. Bh2 Qxh2#.

White's decisive blunder is <28. Nd5??>, defending against Black's lesser "threat" 28...Nc3.

Instead, 28. Qf3! (+1.24 @ 26 depth, Deep Fritz 14) strongly favors White as play might continue 28... Nc3 29. h3 Nxb1 30. Rxb1 Nf6 31. Bxd4 Ne4 32. Bxg7+ Qxg7 33. Rd1 Re8 34. Nd5 h5 35. Kg1 Ng3 36. Qf2 Ne4 37. Qb6 Kg8 38. Ne3 Rf8 39. Qa5 (+1.35 @ 26 depth, Deep Fritz 14).

Sep-22-15  HowDoesTheHorsieMove: Ah, a nice and easy Monday puzzle. Not every Monday is this easy...Wait! This is Tuesday! Something is wrong: Tuesdays usually aren't this easy.
Sep-22-15  Once: What do we do with a stalemated enemy king? We check and check him until he is dead.

If the Bg1 was a rook or a knight we could have fun with a knight reloader on f2 - 28...Nf2+ (either) 29. Qxf2 Nxf2#

But the White queen and bishop are patrolling f2 with guard dogs and a machine gun nest, so that fantasy mate doesn't work.

Instead let's try the only other check in the position followed by a queen commando raid on the h file. 28...Ng3+ and you know the rest.

The game itself is interesting. Black gives up the exchange in return for a knight outpost on e4. Unlike his other outpost on g4, this one can't be dislodged by pawn or bishop.

And it is these two terrifying knights who work together to deliver the mate. That exchange loss doesn't seem so important now.

Sep-22-15  paavoh: 28.- Qh5 was a diversion, but it got too complicated (for me and for Tuesday). Took another look and found 28.- Ng3+.
Sep-22-15  Oxspawn: Looks to be the same as yesterday – the white king crushed in the corner, and the white moves all forced.

28. ........Ng3+
29. hxg2 Qh5+
30. Bh2 Qxh2#
Very gentle progression so far this week. But it is only Tuesday

Sep-22-15  Oxspawn: Wasn't white a bit greedy as well as shortsighted? Four consecutive knight moves from 25-28 and still cackling an evil laugh at pocketing the rook and the pawn when he realised the extent of the trouble back home. Did 28.... Ng3+ really come as a total shock?
Sep-22-15  patzer2: <Oxspawn: Wasn't white a bit greedy as well as shortsighted? Four consecutive knight moves from 25-28...> Yes indeed!

Instead of 25. Ne7+ , "winning an exchange," it was better to win back a whole piece with 25. Qxg4! (+1.98 @ 26 depth, Deep Fritz 14).

Instead of 28. Nd5??, better was 28. Qf3! giving back the exchange for a strong and likely winning White advantage.

P.S.: Correction to previous post: It's White's (not Black's) pieces hemming in their King and out of play, and it's Black's (not White's) pieces actively posted for mate-in-three with 28...Ng3+!

Penguincw: Hmm, I was think of smothered mate, but looked at the classical f2 instead of a knight sac on g3. :| :(
Sep-22-15  geeker: Funny for Tuesday...I thought the weakness of f2 was the key, spent a couple of minutes analyzing, but found absolutely nothing! Only then did I look for other forcing moves and see the solution.
Sep-22-15  whiteshark: <28...Ng3+!>, and that's it.

gawain: Remarkably like yesterday's puzzle. I'm Looking forward to seeing other variations on this theme.
Sep-22-15  kevin86: I was looking at well-guarded f2, but the blow falls at g3-ignore the fork, the knight sac perforce opens up the king's row and leads to mate in three.
Sep-22-15  UrVileWedge: Took me a few minutes, I kept trying to come up with a way of making the f2 smothered mate work, and had to discard that idea before seeing the obvious ....Ng3+
Sep-22-15  thegoodanarchist: So far this week the puzzles have been very well-suited for the difficulty of the day [or lack thereof].

At least, I think so. Others may disagree.

Sep-22-15  Dr. Overlord: Paradise lost to die Walkure at a point in space that contains all other spaces at once.
Sep-22-15  thegoodanarchist: <Dr. Overlord: Paradise lost to die Walkure at a point in space that contains all other spaces at once.>

I hate it when that happens.

Sep-22-15  BOSTER: < jith1207: looking forward to patzer2's analysis>. Why Deep Fritz 14 said nothing about white to play 19.b4.

  Bubo bubo: Again a sac opens the h-file: 28...Ng3+ 29.hxg3 Qh5+ 30.Bh2 Qxh2#
Sep-22-15  Chess Is More: <Dr. Overlord: Paradise lost to die Walkure at a point in space that contains all other spaces at once.>

Intelligent reference to three of the names of these players. Well done.

Sep-22-15  st.dvy: The entire game, I thought white was winning, especially after winning the exchange. 21..Bg1 is obviously the losing move. Why not just allow the trade? I love the bishop pair as much as anyone, but once one is gone the knights become stronger: It would have been better to have the knight pair than the bishop and knight duo. How ugly, worthless, and smothering that bishop is on g1. The monarch forking check on g3 is so simple and lovely that bishop is just so wrong. Of course, what makes it all work is the queen's immediate access to h5.
