al wazir: Why did black play 27...Nb5 ? Wouldn't 27...Nf6 have saved the piece and also defended against a mate on g7?
Nov-26-18  paavoh: Perhaps 27.- Nf6 28.Rxe8 Nxe8 29.Qc5 eyeing both Qf8# and Qxa7 was too scary...
Nov-26-18  Steve.Patzer: Stockfish prefers 27....Qf6.

  OrangeTulip: November Bok month!
Nov-26-18  zb2cr: To <paavoh>: Except Qf8+ isn't mate, the King has h7. Black gets lost because of 29. ... Ra8; 30. Qf8+, Kh7; 31. Ng5+, Qxg5(forced) and the material deficit is too much.

catlover: I had the same question that <al wazir> expressed, except I thought maybe 27...Nd6 might be way to keep from losing the knight.

The pun sure works. Katy didn't.

Nov-26-18  TheaN: <al wazir & paavoh: Perhaps 27.- Nf6 28.Rxe8 Nxe8 29.Qc5 eyeing both Qf8# and Qxa7 was too scary...>

Not scary, winning. In that sense 28....Qxe8?! may even be better as 29.Qxa6 Nc6! 30.Rc1! is considerably harder to envision for a blitz game.

27....Qf6! is indeed much more practical as it immunizes Ne4 for the time being (due to Qxa1) but White's still on +2.5 after 28.Rac1. Much harder in practice, though.

ChessHigherCat: I don't think the pun justified this choice of game of the day, but I suppose it was better than searching the database for a draw just to use "Bok to the drawing board"
