  fredthebear: It's difficult to survive against two blind swine on the second rank, especially when additional pieces give them support. (In the final position, White could have given up his queen for the Black knight giving check and prolonged the game for a slow death in an overmatched rooks and pawns ending.)

The middlegame shaped up to favor White with the light-squared bishop on the open long diagonal against Black's knight. However, Black was the first to get permanent penetration in the enemy ranks. The White bishop had little to aim at. At some point, one must attack to win.
