Sep-06-16  cro777: A brilliant game by Reizniece-Ozola.

A thorough analysis of the game can be found in the Tournament Bulletin by Dylan Loeb McClain, editor-in-chief of WorldChess.com:

"In the women’s section, the shocker of the round, and of the tournament, was definitely Reizniece-Ozola’s win over Hou. Reizniece-Ozola played a magnificent game."

An Englishman: Good Evening: I like to borrow the ancient Greek word "aristeia" (hope I spelled it correctly) for such a stunning, "lightning from a clear blue sky" achievement that occurs once and perhaps never again. Much like America's woman soccer player Lloyd scoring 3 goals in 15 minutes v. Japan in the World Cup Final.

For a handful of hours Dana Reizniece-Ozola was the greatest woman chess player in the world. Judging from her rating, that will never happen again--but she will always have that handful of hours. A handful of hours that almost every other human being will never experience.

Dana Reizniece-Ozola thoughtful. It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you are capable to do with it.

FSR: Good pun, <OCF>, though it seems a tad risque coming from you. (I had to look up "Mazola Party.")

  al wazir: A more elegant ending would have been 49. Qxg7+ Nxg7 50. Ng5+ Kg6/Kg8 51. Rxg7+ Kxg7 52. Nxe6+ Kf6 53. Nxc5.
Dec-02-16  optimal play: "Yes Minister"

heh heh

One of the funniest comedies to come out of Britain!

scormus: Superb game by the Latvian, Something to saviour for the rest of her life.

I wonder if CG will feature a game by the young Theresa May. I don't imagine it would be quite this good though.

<Very droll, Minister!>

Well I never liked it. I have heard it on the wireless. I don't like television. I do not like politics, either. I find it pointless. I think that in the future Dana Reizniece-Ozola will be remembered more for this game than for being Minister of Edducative Things in Lithuanis.

Yes that is quite beautiful .. thanks!

Dec-02-16  rea: I once beat then-Oklahoma secretary of state John Rogers Jr. in a tournament game.

This was before his forced resignation on corruption charges.

If I recall correctly from all those years ago, he was rated in the 1600s

Dec-02-16  rea: <em>"Another item for my collection of people who became notable enough to be relevant for Wikipedia in two independent fields"</em>

Consider GM Kenneth Rogoff (Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University)

IM Edward Lasker (inventor of a breast pump)

IM Norman Whitaker (prominent criminal)

Dec-02-16  rea: And (not to monopolize the thread, but) does anyone know why it is called the Agincourt Defense? Maybe French Defense-like e6 and d5 against the English? I did not notice any knights being taken by pawns . . .

were the corruption charges due to a pre-arranged agreement for him to resign to you?

I am NOT accusing. Just asking. Because I am too lazy to google "John Rogers Junior corruption charges" and also because it wouldn't be as funny if I googled it....

Another great post by SS!

Please keep up the good work you do.

Dec-02-16  thegoodanarchist: One more thing. Is it any wonder why women cannot compete for the WC?

Can anyone imagine MC losing to D. R-O?

Me neither.

Dec-02-16  rea: <thegoodanarchist "Can anyone imagine MC losing to D. R-O?">

Sure I can! She's a fairly strong master, a WGM, an experienced player. Carlsen is a human being. Stranger things have happened many, many times.

Are you imagining a simul?
