Phony Benoni: That was unusual. Obviously a knight discovery attacks the Rd6, and it's a matter of rendering the ...Kc7 defense useless.

So, <20.Nb6+ Kc7 21.Na8+>, luring away or defender or another.

chessgames.com: And some people say that knights in the corner are a bad thing :)
Nov-28-17  Walter Glattke: 30.-Kf6 31.f4! h5 32.f5! +-
Nov-28-17  patzer2: It wasn't difficult to figure out the solution to today's Tuesday puzzle was a discovered attack with check tactic, beginning with 20. Nb6+! +-. I was expecting it to go 20. Nb6+ axb6 21. Rxd6 +- with the decisive win of an exchange.

Black muddied the water a bit with 20...Kc7, but the simple reply 21. Na8+ forces either the King or the Rook to abandon the defense of d6 and allow 22. Rxd6 +- (+4.18 @ 29 ply, Stockfish 8).

P.S.: The decisive mistake for Black was 18...c5? allowing 19. c3! +- (+2.76 @ 29 ply, Stockfish 8).

Instead, 18...Nc6 19. Bb5 Be4 ± (+1.00 @ 33 ply, Stockfish 8) gives Black a fighting chance.

Earlier, instead of 11...0-0-0 12. Qxd4 Nxd4 13. 0-0-0 ⩲ (+0.40 @ 31 ply, Stockfish 8), Black could have kept it level by avoiding the exchange of Queens with 11...Qe5+ 12. Be2 0-0-0 = (+0.10 @ 33 ply, Stockfish 8).

Nov-28-17  agb2002: The material is identical.

White can win an exchange with 20.Nb6+ Kc7 (20... axb6 21.Rxd6) 21.Na8+ Rxa8 2.Rxd6 + - [R vs N].

Nov-28-17  AlicesKnight: Found the game continuation of moves 20 and 21; other Black moves at move 21 do not help the position - the exchange must be lost.
Nov-28-17  Valen521: Nb6+ is nice!
Nov-28-17  groog: I was looking at N-e7+. Don't have a chess engine, and no time to set up a board to see what happens.
Nov-28-17  morfishine: <20.Nb6+>

*****

Nov-28-17  malt: 20.Nb6+ Kc7 (20...ab6 21.R:d6) 21.Na8+
Nov-28-17  saturn2: 20 Nb6 Kc7 (also axN or Kb8 are bad) 21 Na8+ wins

Breunor: I'm surprised this guy doesn't have more Rocky puns; for this puzzle, we have 'Yo Adrian, I got it!'

After 20. Ne7+ , my Stockfish gives the continuation

20. ... Kc7 21. Nd5+ Kb8 22. Nxf6 Rxf6
23. Rxd8+ Nxd8 24. Rxd8+ Kc7 25. Rd2

, with an eval of [+1.21].

(From the puzzle position, it gives
20. Nb6+ Kc7 21. Na8+ Rxa8 22. Rxd6
with an eval of [+3.55].)

Bubo bubo: The discovered attack 20.Nb6+ wins the exchange: Black can try to protect the Rd6 with 20...Kc7, but after 21.Na8+ he is unable to keep up the double guard.
Nov-28-17  Cheapo by the Dozen: Good Tuesday puzzle.

The key is realizing that Black can't decline the a8 knight while keeping the d6 rook protected.

Nov-28-17  BOSTER: My opinion that it is not a puzzle.
Nov-28-17  kevin86: The key move is the knight to a8- a corner square.
Nov-28-17  MostlyWatch: After 20. Nb6+, I do not understand why black played 20... Kc7. Why didn't black simply take the knight with the pawn, axb6? That would have put white behind in material.

After 20. ... axb6; 21. Rxd6 and White has won the Exchange: White is ahead by Rook vs. Knight.

Thanks! Ninov probably has another game that fits that pun better.
