Nov-16-17  JPi: Very impressive game from Maxime. Even if White looks already a bit better around move 12 I still do not completely understand why simplification 12...Qxd6 wasn't played. However difficult to find a dubious move from White. Seems nearly almost perfect (A word to take with tweezers).
Nov-16-17  dehanne: What a miserable variation for black.

An Englishman: Good Evening: That hopelessly doomed d-pawn proved quite immortal, didn't it?

FSR: In these players' last game, Gelfand had played 11...b5 with an eventual draw. M Vachier-Lagrave vs Gelfand, 2017 In the present game, he preferred 11...b6, but it didn't work out so well.
Nov-17-17  Gerenense: According to the page's engine 19...b5 is the losing move, and it makes sense since it seems that this move weakens some critical squares in the queenside. But the way MVL punishes this is almost perfect anyway

  tpstar: In the final position, White has the crude threat of 35. Qe6 forcing simplification to Queen, as in 34 ... a5 35. Qe6 a4?! 36. Qxd7+! Qxd7 37. c6 Qxc6 38. d7 a3 39. d8=Q and now White threatens 40. Qd7+ trading down and then catching the a Pawn.

19 ... Qxd6?? 20. c4 wins a piece.
