  An Englishman: Good Morning: 57.Kg6,Qg7 and 57.Kg4,f5 constitute two of the more interesting mating positions out there; in the latter case we have a "pure" mate in that each flight square gets covered by only one piece.
Apr-27-21  Whitehat1963: The bottom of the table gets a bit of revenge.

  perfidious: Perhaps enervated after his win with Black over the pre-tournament favourite, Amish Girl buys the farm for a second game running.
Apr-27-21  DouglasGomes: White gets nothing out of the opening and Black obtains a confortable QID position with all pieces on the board.
Apr-28-21  Ulhumbrus: One justification for 8 a3 is that Black has not played ...Re8 yet so the bishop can't go back to f8. On 8...Be7 9 Re1 gets ready for e4
Apr-29-21  Gypsy: <40...Nxg4!? 41.Qg3 f5 ... >

When going over this game for the first time, I was quite impressed with the boldness of the <40...Nxg4!?> move.

After some reflection, however, I now think that

<40...Nc4! 41.Nxc4 bxc4 ....>

is a calmer and safer route to victory. Tactically, it is justified by

<42.b5 c3 43.b6 Qc6(!) ...>

<43.b7 Qxb7 44.Qxc3 Qxe4+ 45.Qf3 Qc2+ 46.Kg1 Qb3 ...>

And perhaps something like

<47.Kf2 e5 49.fxe5 Qb2+ 50.Kf1 fxe5 51.Qg3 Qd4 ...>

where the White position is completely ruined.

---

White needs not to press the issue and push his b-pawn forward. But Black has (i) better protected king, (ii) advanced passed pawn on the c-file, and many weak White pawns to attack. After a long think, our SF evaluates the position after <40...Nc4! 41.Nxc4 bxc4 ...> as -1.63 if White plays <42.g5...>; and -1.65 if White plays <42.Kf3...>.
