juan31: I am not an expert, I would like an expert to tell us if White was looking for a draw.

fredthebear: No. An early trade of queens (11.QxQd6) does not necessarily mean White is looking for a draw. I would call this "playing quietly for a win with the draw in hand." White gets a safe, fairly easy game that keeps Black under wraps.

SF says White had a winning advantage in the endgame, but could not convert it. Time pressure was a factor. Keep in mind that a "?" by SF does not necessarily mean the move was a losing blunder (although it might be a huge mistake), it more often simply means there was a slightly better move available than the one that was played. A human should play a move that fits w/a plan (projected future piece placements) that they understand even if the move is not best according to a computer evaluation. For example, it does not do any good to shove a pawn to h5 if you don't understand why.

Here's GM Finegold's take: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...

Artificial Intelligence says the Checkover variation is "dubious" but that's not true. Drawish does not mean dubious at all. A.I. is a bit harsh in his assessment. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...

There are plenty of videos being made of this tournament, but I only post those with analysis/commentary. Simply repeating the game moves is not reason to post the link.

Jun-27-22  RadioBoy: Chess coverage seems to have devolved into the hoopla about the candidates tournament and the world championship match. Featuring the usual 10 or 12 suspects. I miss the good old days when Gligoric or Browne or Uhlman reported on a particular tournament that they won with no world championship overtones. When a dark horse like Plannic or Browne or Lombardi could come out of nowhere and win the tournament.
