Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-12-09  refutor: any thoughts on the smyslov variation (4. ...g6)? is black just giving away too much space to White?
Mar-05-09  FiveofSwords: well in this position 4...e5 is such an easy move to play and I think its nearly =, although it may be a little too open and tactical for some people. 4...g6 would most of all just seem to be an attempt to keep the position a little slower. This position is pretty safe for black so I dont think that any reasonable improving moves he might make would put him in a hopeless position or anything. Its a little hard to understand what the long term plan of g6 would be for me, at least with 4..e5 you are probably going to give white an isolated pawn so thats something simple to work with. But if you have some plan its probably fine.
