offramp: Old Offramp falls to his poor unbending Jacobite knees and prays to the Great Architect of the Universe for a Holy, Just and Righteous result in the referendum on the 18th September 2014.

May the Sasunnaich despoilers and usurpers be thrawn oot wi' thir lungs aknockin' atween thir ballocks LOL!

For it is written:

<Jacob departed from Beersheba, and went to Haran, and he came unto a certain place, and tarried there all night because the sun was down, and took of the stones of the place, and laid under his head and slept in the same place. Then he dreamed, and behold, there stood a ladder upon the earth, and the top of it reached up to heaven: and lo, the Angels of God went up and down by it. And behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land> [ie Scotland] <upon the which thou sleepest, will I give thee and thy seed!>

offramp: It is rarely hard to tell the difference between a ray of sunshine and a Scotsman with a grievance.

offramp: Thanks be to the Lord of Heaven, our Protector. The Yes votes have overtaken the Nayes in the latest opinion polls.

Verily unseat the sassenach! Burn his villages and bite out 7 inches of his lungs!

Sep-08-14  Benzol: Will Scotland become independent from the rest of the UK? If so we can fill in a date birth, actually that should be independence. Anyway we find out in nine days time.

HeMateMe: hmm....how much money does Scotland have to commit each year to the U.K. defense budget, and social entitlement programs for the more populous England?

Maybe Scotland's budget will be easier to balance if they split off?

  HeMateMe: Sean Connery for president?
Sep-10-14  Karposian: <HeMateMe: Sean Connery for president?>

What about John McCain? He didn't get to be US president, what about becoming president in the land of his ancestors?

HeMateMe: you get those write in ballots organized.
Sep-10-14  kellmano: Ah good, some discussion. Thanks <offramp>. I see it is light-hearted thus far so I too will start with a joke:

Q. Why does a 50 pence piece have seven sided?

A. So you can wrench it out of a Scotsman's hand.

I hope that's a joke about Connery too. Fiercely nationalistic. Abhors the Union almost as much as he abhors paying a fair share of tax.

Sep-10-14  whiteshark: "8 questions about Scottish independence you were too embarrassed to ask" http://www.vox.com/2014/9/9/6119079...
Sep-10-14  Jim Bartle: 9th question, the most important:

If Scotland votes for independence, does Murray's Wimbledon victory still count as British? Or does the drought revert to 1936?

Sep-10-14  Karposian: <kellmano> <I hope that's a joke about Connery too. Fiercely nationalistic. Abhors the Union almost as much as he abhors paying a fair share of tax.>

I don't think Connery is a realistic candidate for president of Scotland anymore. A couple of years ago I remember reading about that possibility if Scotland should one day gain independence.

But he is getting too old, he is 84 now, and as I understand it, his mental faculties are somewhat dwindling.

Sep-10-14  Mr. President: You can quit UK w/o my approval...

offramp: Auld Offramp dabs his weary eyes wi his sky blue apron and prays to the Great Geometrician o' the Universe that sense and righteousness prevail on the Thursday of the vote, that the great land of the Scots shall once more be free of the Sassenach yoke.

For it is written:

<And before the race is built anew A silver serpent comes to view
And spew out men of like unknown
To mingle with the earth now grown
Cold from its heat and these men can
Enlighten the minds of future man.

To intermingle and show them how
To live and love and thus endow
The children with the second sight.
A natural thing so that they might
Grow graceful, humble and when they do
The Golden Age will start anew.>

And:

<And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps LOL. And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.>

offramp: God bless the queen (I mean our faith's defender!)
God bless! (No harm in blessing) the Pretender.
But who Pretender is, and who is King,
God bless us all! That's quite another thing

HeMateMe: What would their final budget look like?

Scotland would no longer pay any monies for: defense--zero budget/NATO/northern Ireland/England's infrastructure/the royal family.

However, do they lose their share of the proceeds from North Sea Oil?

Sep-11-14  Karposian: <However, do they lose their share of the proceeds from North Sea Oil?>

As I understand the situation after reading up on British newspapers, it is assumed on both sides of the border that 91% of the tax revenues from the oil could be taken by Scotland on the basis of an internationally accepted median line drawn out between Scotland and England straight out into the sea.

And given that we are talking about bilions of pounds each year (£4.7bn last year), I think it's safe to say that North Sea Oil alone should more or less secure an independent Scotland economically.

offramp: I wonder if Washington & Franklin thought of deferring independence until a more financially viable time?
Sep-16-14  Marmot PFL: <<However, do they lose their share of the proceeds from North Sea Oil?>

Most of the oil from this source is already gone, with production less than a third of it's peak in 1999.

If you have $1000 in your pocket, I'd say you've got a lot of money on you, even if you some years ago used to walk around carrying $3000 in your pocket :)

offramp: Oh mighty Lord and Supreme Governor of the Universe, poor Offramp repents in dust and ashes that asks that You give harden the hearts of the Scots - give them courage to cast out the savage and pestilential Sasunnaich aggressors, trample them underfoot, bite off their faces and burn their corpses and leave them as food for the jackals, ravens and magpies.

For is it not written:

<My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips, when I remember thee on my bed, and when I think upon thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been mine helper, therefore under the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul cleaveth unto thee: for thy right hand upholdeth me. Therefore they [the Sasunnaichs] that seek my soul to destroy it, they shall go into the lowest parts of the earth. They shall cast him down with the edge of the sword, and they shall be a portion for the jackal and the crow.>

Have the courage to vote <YES> tomorrow!

offramp: When ye hie ye to the polling booth, remember these stirring words, my countrymen:

<
Apon the crag with his suerd has him tayne,
Throw brayne and seyne in sondir straik the bayne.
Be he was fallyn, the twa than lichtyt doun,
To veng his dede to Wallace maid thaim boun.
The tayne of thaim apon the hed he gaiff,
The rousty blaid to the schulderis him claiff.
The tothir fled and durst no langar bide;
With a rud step Wallace coud eftir glide.
Our thourch his rybbis a seker straik drewe he,
Quhill levir and lounggis men mycht all redy se.>

Sassenach livers and lungs!! Ha-Haarr!!
