Sep-02-18 | | hemy: The article of Petrov "How the chess tournament in Helsingfors turned out." was published in "Segodnia", December 1, 1936, p. 8: "The chess tournament in Helsingfors, organized in the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the oldest in Finland Helsingfors chess club, was held in
stubborn struggle.
Prior to the 5th round, was leading Stoltz, who won against me a very nice endgame in the third round. At the beginning of the tournament, a talented Finn Salo advanced, having 4 points after the 5th round.
The finish of the tournament, however, changed a lot.
I managed to defeat Salo.
Stoltz (Sweden) was exhausted by the end and managed to score only 1.5 points in the last 4 rounds.
The first prize went to me with 7 points from 9 games (apart from losing to Stoltz, I made 2 draws) ..." <Tab> Thank you, but I looked through this one here- https://jbc.bj.uj.edu.pl/dlibra/pub... and I could only find one photo- of Polish master <Dawid "Ptarmigan" Przepiorka> surrounded by fellow Polish chess players and officials. Are you sure you posted the right link brah.
This site you linked here: http://www.club64.it/documenti/stud... has a photo of <Petrovs>- for sure that is him. It is a photo in which he receives a prize at <Kemeri 1937> from the President of Latvia. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1... |

Sep-03-18 | | hemy: <Tabanus> I'm using the Polish sources occasionally. Om my computer I have collection of "czachista_polski",
"nowiny szachowe", "swiat szachowy", "szachista" and "wiadomosci szachowe" Yesterday I checked information about Helsinki tournament. In "wiadomosci szachowe", January 1937, p. 10 was published small article with results of the Helsinki 1936 tournament with wrong score: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvb5hezte... The article about this tournament, including the tournament table, was published in the Sweden "Tidskrift for schack", 1936, 8-12, p. 188: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rs6rk08dt... |
