Oct-15-07  blazerdoodle: <> talisman: is this the dillinger mugshot? <>

I've got that mugshot myself. And don't be too hard on this mug, I mean, it did have expensive plastic surgery done for the morgue shot though.

Oct-15-07  blazerdoodle: and oh, I've not followed the elections closely, but I did vote for Sloan, and why? Zuza didn't make any since. He did. I just googled and got what came up. I can't stand the new Chess life mag setup and hoped some of these old timers might go back to the old format - any of them since the 50's would be better than that awful blue lettering.

whiskeyrebel: blazerdoodle, Dillinger looks shrewd in your pic. Sloan frankly looks like a carny crankhead in need of sleep. I disagree with you on the "new" format of Chess Life. I like it quite a bit. The quality of the photos in particular has increased incredibly. The've looked overall pretty stiff since I started reading it as a child in the late 60's. Just my 2 cents worth.
Oct-19-07  blazerdoodle: ><><whiskeyrebel<><> : Sloan frankly looks like a carny crankhead in need of sleep. <><> Uh, I have to agree with you! I didn't see the pic before I voted. But I wouldn’t let the pic influence me, he does seem older, and maybe tired, but I like some of the things he said at that time, which I found on the internet.

And I was a bit upset with Polgars, “I'm being constantly attacked” spiel, which I seem to run into a lot at that time, but I’ll admit, I could have been wrong and she might have been right. It was just her answer to everything. I like her more since.

On the chess life format, I just like the harsher way the old pages stood out. That blue is hard on my eyes. But it is more stylish. I’d be happy if it looked more like a 1920’s electrical or engineering manual…lol…

Dillinger was one cool customer. When this pic was taken, he was in custody, and he escaped. He was photographed with everyone, including leaning on the cops shoulders smiling and laughing, and I don’t think they were re-elected.

midknightblue: i voted based on how many chins each candidate have. Sam won going away.
Jan-30-08  Jim Bartle: So Gelfand wasn't running?
Feb-22-08  DrGrobb: He plays g4 against anybody!!!I wonder if he still plays?
May-14-08  edbermac: What's up with him? I go to his site sometimes; now nothing but error messages. Saw this on Wiki:

On 03 April 2008, posts appeared on USENET, apparently placed by Mr. Sloan, claiming that some of his websites had been censored. "Today, April 3, 2008, the Sheriff of Amherst County Virginia finally succeeded in shutting down Sam Sloan's websites. The following websites were closed down on orders of Deputy C. R. Smith of the Amherst County Sheriff's Department: http://www.samsloan.com http://www.shamema.com..." (He added a third site, but it is blacklisted).

Hope he gets back online; he's quite a character.

Sep-21-08  kramputz: Wow....that picture shows he is on LSD trip. Too many law suits ????
Apr-10-09  Dredge Rivers: In the April 2009 Chess Life, he claims he was convicted of kidnapping for rescuing his daughter from a kidnapper! Now, doesn't that sound a little bass ackwards? Didn't he used to live in a commune? And most importantly, why did I ever get involved in a sport that attracts these kind of weirdos?

Sigh!

P.S. Nice photo! (Not!)

parisattack: <kramputz: Wow....that picture shows he is on LSD trip. Too many law suits ????>

I read the Lawsuits thing in CL this (last?) month. Made me dizzy, everyone suing everyone...half-dozen permutations/trees, like a variation of the Najdorf. People must have a lot of time on their hands is all I can think.

Caissanist: An account of the lawsuits from the USCF ED (probably similar to what parisattack read) is online at http://main.uschess.org/content/vie....

blacksburg: wow, everyone suing each other over message board posts. that's awesome for chess in the US. that'll really help chess to be taken seriously in this country. great work, everyone.

MaxxLange: This is depressing. The old Usenet crowd (the same guys who spammed all the chess groups with their obsessive, feuding .politics posts) finally take their shot at really finishing off USCF.
Apr-12-09  Everyone: Thanks <blacksburg>. It had been a long time in coming.

You mean, O.J. actually killed those people? Wow! My head is spinning!

I have a plan, too. I plan to IGNORE THIS BASKET CASE!
