Harutyunian won three IM norms in the first three months of 2014. The first was at the round robin Margaryan Memorial Tournament held in January 2014, the second was at the David Bronstein Memorial 2014 in February, and his third was at the European Individual Championship (2014) in March.

In September, he placed =3rd (6th on tiebreak) at the World U18 Championship 2014 and in November he placed =3rd (5th on tiebreak) at the European U18 Championship 2014.
