Nov-14-09  jcnorcro: Just stumbled upon this game. Chessgames.com Reigns
I had not heard about John V.Ragan since I played him in a simultaneous exhibition preceeding the 1959 Arkansas Open (B,25,26) in Hot Springs AR. John played 19 games, winning 17,drawing 1 with Orval Albritton, the reigning state champion, and losing 1 game to me. It was quite a thrill for a 17 year old Class B player to pull one off on a US Master. I must confess that he did look quite a bit haggard, very tired from travel, but that is the way exhibitions were played...the night before the tournament started. I had often wondered about Mr. Ragan and now I know!! Thanks!
