Jan-31-05  csmath: <<-ov in the last name is a little unusual in fmr yugoslavia, but not unheard of.>>

Actually it is very usual in the eastern part of the country, what used to be Yugoslavia, meaning in Serbia and Macedonia.

Jan-31-05  csmath: Nikolic and Sokolov are the last generation of Yugoslav chess. If Yugoslavia stayed together others would follow. This way they are the last products of that once powerful chess nation, now a basket case in every way.
Jul-10-05  stinky2: <csmath> There are some very good young players in ex-Yugoslavia, like Borki Predojevic (b.1987) and Ante Brkic (b.1988).
Aug-08-05  yoozum: Markus Robert (Lord Malshun on Playchess) is also quite good. He played very well in the Euro Team Championships and I expect that he will soon pass 2600.
Jan-08-06  Petrosian63: This guy is a very solid player.
He has won Corus twice.

May-18-06  lopium: "In 1993 whilst playing in Argentina " whilst, is it my English that is too incomplete, or is it a little error?

ganstaman: Whilst is one of those funny little words that I don't think anyone actually uses anymore unless they are trying to sound old or smart. Unless it actually is used outside of the US, in which case I wouldn't know about it.

Ok, checking with, it says that whilst means while, and it is chiefly used in British English.

May-19-06  lopium: Nice word! Thank you ganstaman, I hope I will use it in my next exam.
Apr-16-07  gambitfan:
Oct-04-07  aazqua: This guy is the biggest chese puff you'll find in chess. I couldn't find a single interesting game he won on his own merits. Take a look at his notable games - four examples of inexplicable blunders but good players to hand Pedrag winning positions. Talk about damning with faint praise.

Tabanus: Winner of the 4th Leiden Chess Tournament (Holland) 9-18 July 2010:, congratulations!

Feb-19-11  kramputz: shows his FIDE rating as" 2019".
How ridiculous !! There must be another player with the same last name.

HeMateMe: I have a book by Predrag Nikolic, somewhere.
Feb-19-11  sevenseaman: I agree with <kramputz>. The general impression I have of Nicolic calibre, his TPR should be close to 2700.
Feb-19-11  AnalyzeThis: 2019 guys don't tie with Ivanchuk for first.
Feb-19-11  jovack: Bosnian Serb
Oct-31-11  waustad: His rating at the moment is 2645:
Nov-29-11  th3doctor: pretty sure if you can win this endgame against Korchnoi:

P Nikolic vs Korchnoi, 1987

you'll never be a 2032 again

Feb-18-12  AlphaMale: According to Chessmetrics, Nikolic was the strongest 10-11 year old in history:

I suspect this is due to a case of mistaken identity based on the result of this event:

Apr-03-12  Whitehat1963: At age 51, Predrag is the only player in the top 100 above the age of 50.

Penguincw: Happy 54th birthday to GM Predrag Nikolic.
Premium Chessgames Member
Penguincw: Fast forward about 9 months from his 54th birthday:

Congrats to Predrag Nikolic for his performance at the Bosna Open. Entering as the 4th seed at 2618, he won the first game, then drew the next, and then another win, 2 more draws, 2 more wins, another draw and 1 last win to finish with 7/9 and a 5-way tie for 1st (but 5th after tiebreaks). He was also the highest placing Bosnian.

His June rating was 2601, and he gains 0.1 points, so it's going to remain there. :|
