A member of the chess club Schakklubben av 1911, he played on the Norwegian national team in the 1930 (board 2, +1 =2 -9) and 1931 (board 4, +0 =3 -11) olympiads. President of the Norwegian Chess Federation 1946-1949. Author of the book Sjakk for Alle (Chess for All) (Cappelen, Oslo 1943). Adm. Director of both the insurance companies Nye Norske (1949-1966) and Samvirke (1949-1966). He also played correspondence chess on a national level.
