PAULO BERSAMINA
(born Feb-01-1998) Philippines

[what is this?]
Bersamina won his FIDE Master title when he won the 11th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championship for the U12 division in Olongapo City in June 2010.

In 2010, at the age of 12 years 3months 23 days, he became the youngest player ever to win the National Junior Championship. He went on to win the 2nd Singapore International Youth Championships 2011 - Open U14 with 8/9. The Philippines team came 2nd overall (behind hosts Vietnam) in the 13th ASEAN+ Age Group Championships held in June 2012 in Hue City in Vietnam, with Bersamina winning 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals and a bronze medal in the U14 Team and Individual events.

Bersamina started 2013 strongly: playing in the 1st Chairman's Cup International Chess Championship in Manila, he scored 5.5/9 and a few days later competed at the Zonal 3.3 Open where he scored 4/9. These two events netted him 60 ratings points. His strong 4.5/9 result at the Manny Pacquiao Cup Continental Championship earned him another 26 rating points.

kardopov: There were many up there but only one will be left alone standing. Go Pau, realize your dream. You really are the future of RP chess.

Or maybe pang GM na. Pau needs international exposure.

Mar-16-12  mysql: Keep it up Bersamina. You're doing great.

pinoymaster77: Congratulations to FM Pau for emerging champ in Open-14 and also Panagsinan's Sam Glo Revita in Girls-14, still awaiting word or update to chess-results.com if Sta Rosa's Mark James Marcellana (O-12) also made it to the Phil team to Vietnam for ASEAN Age Group...

Other confirmed qualifiers to the team are Alexis Suede/G12 and Alphecca Gonzales (Cebu)/G8

pinoymaster77: Sa National Juniors naman ulit... just like in 2010 eh kasama Chief Second/Coach si Dad FI Lilet so hope mas ok ang prepa...
Apr-13-12  Iskubadayb: Congrats sa 3rd place in the Visayas leg ng National Juniors.

  pinoymaster77: Iskuba,

Matindi nga yung Tanauan finals kung matuloy ang plano na round robin, meaning minimum of 15 players yun, so at least 14 opponents in 7 to 8 playing days...

Im not so much worried kay Pau since kahit papaano may exercise siya and daily chess studies, but for the other kiddies na siguradong si sanay sa ganung weeklong competition, as its very rare nowadays. Ang typical ay 1 day, rapid tourneys...

  kardopov:
Hindi ba mas magandang maisabak na si Pau sa mas mabibigat na close tourney, (a round robin) like BOGM? Mukhang seryoso ang family nya in supporting him to become one of the leading players of RP.

Many leading European players underwent this kind of regimen or maybe strategy, and have become topnotch players of today. Examples are Carlsen, Giri, Caruana, and Lagrave just to name a few. Many other aspiring youngsters are treading the same path to improve their games and strengthen their character. I would say that the greatest motivation for a youngster is to play against their esteemed predecessor.

Paulo is in the same boat. At his age, and with his talent, he must be slugging it out already with our GMs. Sana mabigyang pansin ito ng NCFP. They can produce as many players as they want through their promotion of grass-root level development but they can hardly develop a strong player of world class caliber (more so, in abundance.) Wesley needs a company to carry the RP colors. Go go go Paulo!!

pinoymaster77: Stepladder elims ang format ng NCFP for the BOGM and also Olympiad qualifier (3 slots at stake?). Definitely sasali sa Semis in June where seeded ang titled players (IM/FM/NM) na sasama sa qualifiers from Non-Masters. There will be reportedly 6 slots at stake in the semis to join the BOGM in July...

Nakalaro si Pau recently sa La Union and Candon Opens where some GMs competed... naglalaro siya kung kelan may chance...

Apr-14-12  spartan1998: Good morning po!

Jrs. at sa Semis ng Eliminations for BOGM.

Sana po loobin ng Diyos manalo ako.

:)

Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. SENATOR Francis “Chiz” Escudero will be the guest of honor when the Grand Finals of the 2012 National Age Group and National Juniors Chess Championships gets underway on April 23 – 30 at the Tanauan Event Center in Tanauan City, Batangas.

Other personalities who will grace the ceremonies are Tanauan City Mayor Sonia Torres Aquino and other City Officials, NCFP Officials led by Chairman/President Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr., Secretary-General Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr., and Organizing Committee Chairman Atty. Raul V. Canobas.

After the completion of the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao Legs, the one hundred eighty qualifiers for the twelve categories (boys & girls - 8under, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 20under) in the Age Group Championships are contending for title and a berth in the delegation to the 2012 ASIAN Youth Chess Championships in Sri Lanka.

While the 30 finalist in the National Juniors, will vie for the bragging rights as Philippine Junior Champion and the chance to represent the Philippines in the 2012 World Juniors Chess Championships in Athens, Greece.
A tight race for the Juniors title is expected with 2010 Juniors title holders FM Paulo Bersamina & NM Joey Albert Florendo, 2011 titlist Fide Master Marie Joseph Turqueza, FIDE Master Haridas Pascua and National Master Alcon John Datu in the line-up.

The title retention
bid of WNM Janelle Mae Frayna will be contested by WFM Cherry Ann Mejia, WNM Jan Jodilyn Fronda and WNM Jedara Docena.

pinoymaster77: All the best to Lilet and FM Pau, sana makakita kayo ng appropriate and comfortable na sleeping/resting area, critical din yan in between rounds... since it will be LONG tournament.

Mga Calamba sila Rey with Mich & Nanola & Mendio tomorrow am.

Sta Rosa with 7 qualifiers and support group ala pa balita kung this pm or tom am.

Davaoenos Grace Moulic (moulicules' daughter) and Literatus flying in with Mrs Moulic...

I will try to silip-silip 2 to 3x during the course of the finals, 1 week eto!

BTW, na-share na the Natl Open/Olympiad semis will be June 18-23 na in Tagaytay, so this will overlap with the ASEAN Age Group in Vietnam so Age Group champs like FM Paulo and Daryl will probably go with the PHI team, and have to skip the semis...

  pinoymaster77: Good am,

13 participants in the Boys Juniors, so 12 opponents over the next 6 days. FM Pau got a bye in yesterday's opening round. The Bilbao system does have its pros and cons and after thinking about it seems there are more pros. In the case of the field in the Boys Juniors, am confident can overcome certain groupings, do not think they have the playing strengths to have such influence at the top...

pinoymaster77: Matindi close fight ng 'fantastic four' sa Juniors, at the end of round 9 o this am before round 10, ay leading ulit FM Haridas with 21 pts (he beat MJ in rd 9!), followed by FM Paulo and dapat FM na din na si Pimentel at 20 pts, FM Turqueza had 18 pts.

Tapos katatapos lang na round 10 eh FM Paulo vs FM Haridas, and Pimentel vs Turqueza. Naka-recover MJ with a win over Pimentel (his first loss). FM Paulo could not squeeze out a win and settled for a truce. So now after 10 rounds eh FM Pascua still leading with 22pts, then FM Paulo and Turqueza have 21 pts then Pimentel has 20 pts!

Now etong round 11 to start 130 pm eh Pimentel vs FM Paulo....

Ika nga ng late Joe Cantada, eh cardiac finish, 3 rounds to go pa!!

Si Jasper eh dapat ma-overtake na Daryl sa rd10 this am when bye si Daryl but was held to a draw by tailender Bernaldez, so behind na naman sa pace ni Daryl by 1 point! 3 rounds pa....
