 | | cro777: A blitz match of 2 games (the time control 4 minutes each at the start of the game with an increment of 2 seconds per move from move 1) ended in a draw. In an Armageddon game Cramling played with white. Dzagnidze won the game and the tournament. Congratulations to both players! |
 |
| Feb-21-12 | | Olavi: Sutovsky's statement (see <cro777>'s post) is of course false. There is no men's grandmaster title. |

 | | waustad: Excellent performance in any case, though that was a $3000 flag drop. Ouch. |
 |
Feb-21-12
 | | waustad: Taking a quick draw in the last round may be questioned, but the only way she could have gotten 2nd place after a draw was if Dzagnidze won her game and she lost the tie breaks. Making a rough estimate of the likelyhood, that would occur about 1/6 of the time. I think most GMs would take those odds. |

 | | cro777: Controversial last round draw
In the last round, in a decisive game Cramling - Lahno, the players copied the game Shimanov - Timofeev, a 17 move draw. In the Gruenfeld Exchange Variation with 8.Be3, they followed the game Cramling - Dronavalli (the Atatürk International Women Masters Chess Tournament, Istambul, Turkey 2008). 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Here, Dronavalli played <10...cxd4!?> (Cramling won the game in 24 moves). Lahno opted for <10...Bg4> and the players simply copied the game Shimanov - Timofeev (62nd Russian Championship Higher League, Ulan Ude, Russia 2009) which ended in a draw by repetition in 17 moves. 10... | | waustad: One day from her first annual 49th b'day! |
 |
Apr-23-12
 | | waustad: On my 39th, 49th and 59th I made jokes about pulling a Jack Benny and having an annual x9th b'day party. The next year I was always more into the even decade, so it never happened. Lots of April 23 b'days. The next two should probably have Pia Cramling on her 50th in 2013 and Alexandra Kosteniuk on her 30th in 2014 as POTD. |

 | | Wild Bill: This is also the traditional date to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday, although all we really know is that he was baptized on April 26, 1564. Send him a card! |

 | | waustad: It looks like the youth tournament in Gibraltar may be why there was no Cramling Bellon in the European Junior champs or Cramling playing for Sweden in the Olympiad. http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/malcolm... sounds more convenient for somebody living about 100 km away and could turn into a tradition. |

Sep-12-12
 | | waustad: I wanted to comment on her game against Alexei Alexandrov in the 1996 olympiad, but it doesn't seem to be in here. Also, they transliterate his name differently on olimpbase than they do here, where he is Alexey Aleksandrov. There is a lot of wild tactics going on. I guess I'll submit it. Maybe they'll add it though sometimes they don't. |
 |
Oct-14-12
 | | waustad: Today she won a very drawish endgame against Tsifanskaya. Moro was playing the same position and got a draw, though he was playing Nikita Vitiugov, a much tougher opponent. |
 |
Oct-30-12
 | | waustad: She's listed as one of those seeded into the next WWCC Tourney. Wouldn't it be great if she finally won at 49. She could never get past Maya ages ago but got to the semi's last time around. Go Pia! |
 |
Dec-13-12
 | | waustad: She'll be playing in the World Mindgames in Beijing: http://www.fide.com/component/conte... |

Dec-15-12
 | | waustad: How does one deal with time zones when going from Spain to Tashkent to Spain to Beijing? There wasn't much time in between and she's pushing 50 hard. Did mom keep strange hours for a while back home to not mess things up too much? |
 |
Dec-15-12
 | | waustad: Wrong location. She was at the WWCC which wasn't at Tashkent. It was one time zone East of there. |
 |
Dec-30-12
 | | waustad: She's having a decent tournament so far at Rilton Cup 2012/2013 at +2 after 4 rounds. Today she drew with the tournament's highest rated player GM Ilya Smirin playing white in a KID.

Jan-01-13
 | | waustad: After a win today against Elena Zaiatz she's up to +3. That means her game will be shown live tomorrow. She was on 8th board today but they only showed 7. |
