Alvaro Dias Huizar was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He is a lawyer and legal scholar in Private International Law currently living in France. He lived early years in Mexico city in where he learn to play chess at the age of 5. Very young he defeat in a simultaneous exhibition the Argentinian GM Julio Bolbochan.

He participated in Venezuelan Experts and Masters 2000, Mexican Masters Championship 2001, Capelle la Grande 2006, Open Rhode 2008, 2009. He won the fast chess "Open Blitz Paris" at 368 Club in December 2006; he tied for 1st in the second festival "Open d'echecs en Touraine, France 2009". In his first and best valoration, Dias has an Elo rating of 2350, ranking him 2924th in the world and 3rd in Venezuela.
