Bistric won his 1st GM norm at the 7th Croatian Team Championship-2nd League in 1998, his second when he won the International Grandmaster Tournament in Kastav, Croatia, in 2000 and his 3rd at the Bled Olympiad in 2002 when he also gained his title. He also won the Rijeka IM 2001 and won team gold with SK Zeljezne in the Bosnian League in 2002.
His participation in team events included the Olympiads of 1998 (1st reserve) and 2002 (1st reserve), the European Team Championships of 1999 (1st reserve) and 2003 (board 4).
