ZSUZSA POLGAR
(born Apr-19-1969) Hungary (citizen of United States of America)
PRONUNCIATION:
[what is this?]
GM (and WIM) Zsuzsa (Susan) Polgár was born in Budapest, Hungary, and along with her two younger sisters, Judit Polgar and Zsofia Polgar, she was taught chess by her father, Laszlo Polgár. By 1984 she became the top-rated woman chess player in the world. Later that year, FIDE, in a controversial decision, granted 100 rating points to every female player except Zsuzsa.

In 1991, Susan achieved the men's grandmaster title, and later that year, her sister Judit Polgar earned the title as well. She is an FST. In 1996, Susan won the Women's World Championship, but refused to defend her title in 1999 against Xie Jun, because she believed the conditions were unfair. In 2004 she competed in the 36th Chess Olympiad, winning gold medals for points and for the highest performance rating. In total, she has won ten Olympiad medals during her career, and has never lost a single game in any Olympiad. Her highest-ever FIDE rating (2577) was achieved on the January 2005 list. This list also returned her to her position as the number one active female player in the world. In 2005, she broke Andrew D Martin 's 2004 world record by playing 326 opponents in a simultaneous exhibition, with a 309 wins, 14 draws and 3 losses for a 96.93% result.* This record stood for 5 years before being broken by Kiril D Georgiev.

Susan lived for many years in New York City, where she ran the Polgár Chess Center (http://www.polgarchess.com). She now resides in Lubbock, Texas, where she serves as coach to the Texas Tech University chess team. She is one of the best-selling chess authors worldwide, and she speaks seven languages fluently. She posts at Chessgames as User: Susan Polgar.

Rather than use this forum to abuse, why don't you use it to get her take on the issue? Get informed and use logic and reasoning rather than cave man blather. You just close doors, or in your case, move stones across the opening, by shouting abuse.

Jan-25-09  Jim Bartle: "Way to pay back the game that gave you everything."

IMO she's given even more to the game than the game has given her.

Jan-25-09  dumbgai: If she was deserving of $25 million for having her character slandered or whatever, then surely she would have plenty of things to say. But there's nothing on her website or blog. The board members she's suing in addition to the USCF have no idea what they did wrong.

PinnedPiece: <the USCF have no idea what they did wrong.> All the more reason to engage in enquiry rather than calumny don't you think? Your strategy just makes you look like a dumb guy, which I know you're not.

HeMateMe: If Susan, Sofia and Judit all play in the Texas tournament would that make them... the "Spice Girls"?

I apologize in advance.......

Feb-23-09  ILikeFruits: dont apologize...
Feb-24-09  Dionyseus: I just saw this on Yahoo, apparently Bulgarian Grandmaster Kiril Georgiev managed to break Susan Polgar's record for largest number of simultaneous chess games. He played 360 games, with only 70 draws and 6 losses, in a marathon lasting over 14 hours.

The previous record was 326 games by Susan Polgar, in 2005, with only 14 draws and 3 losses.

Feb-28-09  WhiteRook48: what do you mean <LaFreak II>?
Apr-06-09  deputy1: Susan I would advise you to concentrate on Chess and disafilate from the USCF
Apr-06-09  deputy1: Happy Birthday Susan I dont like you abandoning ordinary chess though It's like Fischer and his Random Chess Yours John
Apr-06-09  deputy1: Would Susan be able to beat Bobby Fischer if he was alive ?
Apr-06-09  Agent Bouncy: I think it's safe to say that now that he's dead no one can beat Bobby.
Apr-07-09  Dredge Rivers: I sue you, you sue me.

  tpstar: Dear Susan Polgar,

Thank you very much for visiting North Manchester, Indiana to give a chess lecture and play a simultaneous exhibition at Manchester College. My students Peter and Michael were there, and they have been taking lessons for three years. User: bgitw They were thrilled to meet you and extremely honored to earn draws in their games, although they completely understand how the simul giver has such a huge disadvantage playing the entire group at once. Peter's game was a QID which ended up in a BR vs BR endgame and ultimately R vs B. He knew the final position was a draw since your King was in the correct corner, and we had an endgame session on that. Michael was surprised by 1. e4 (since you typically play 1. d4) leading to a Scotch Game with a BR vs NR endgame where he sacrificed his Knight for 2 Pawns because you would have the wrong colored Bishop for your RP. He has known this drawing maneuver for some time, and they have both been working very hard to improve their endgame technique.

Thank you again for everything you do promoting chess and for being such a positive role model, especially for juniors. Best wishes,

Tony Palmer

Apr-22-09  offramp: She was 40 a few days ago. Happy birthday, Susan! You're still a stunner!
Apr-22-09  SamAtoms1980: Happy birthday Susan, I really like this picture of you even though it is 25 years old

Jun-03-09  blacksburg: http://www.chesscafe.com/polgar/pol...

it seems that polgar is criticizing the USCF for spending money on legal fees. hmmm....if only <someone> wasn't suing the USCF for $25 million.

what a mess.

Jun-05-09  dumbgai: http://main.uschess.org/content/vie...

Yay, thanks a lot Susan. Apparently she's not satisfied with the millions she's already got in the bank, and wants to take some more from the tens of thousands of less wealthy chess enthusiasts in this country.

Jun-05-09  AnalyzeThis: I knew there was a reason why I let my USCF membership lapse. Exactly what is the point of paying money towards a three ring circus?
Jun-05-09  MaxxLange: I re-upped my USCF in March so that I could play in a rated tournament again, after 7 years. I was surprised to find that they now had a 1 year $20 or $25 "lite" adult membership, where you do not get the magazine in the mail.

That's about what I pay for Platinum Membership here, and it seems fair to ask for the level of rated amateur play I am wanting to do (5-7 weekend tournaments a year, and the local club on Sunday. I do not play on the Internet blitzinator anymore; it was just reinforcing my bad habits). 7 years ago, adult membership was creeping up to $75/year
