LIFE Master AJ: As far as <lf> is concerned, I would simply note the following:

#1.) He has gone around this site saying the most outlandish things, admins have deleted many of his posts;

#2.) He stated a bold-faced lie ... claiming that I stole his work; (I have addressed - and dismissed this - in my forum.).

#3.) My (non-expert) opinion is that he is either a spoiled, rotten ten-year-old ... or a deeply (mentally) disturbed individual.

#4.) You had better be careful before using one of his games, look for duplicates in the ChessBase database before you use it.

ray keene: i try to be as friendly and helpful as i can here to everyone and if games are submitted i take them on trust-but of course i also check theory and other dimensions when looking at anything before publication-so i doubt anything suspect would get through-i think the key to a successful chess column is a flourishing two way relationship with my readers and i am confident nobody would exploit this.

meanwhile i have started a times chess twitter section @times_chess and i am directing my rapidly expanding new readership to well annotated games here on this site-so roll up-if anyone has a well annotated game on this site which they would like to see me direct readers towards-do let me know

no promises but i am certainly open to suggestions-criteria-good game plus instructive comments and the game must be accessible via chessgames.com

thanks everyone!!

LIFE Master AJ: Have you seen the story about the French GM (and National Champ) S. Fellers, who was busted for cheating in the last Olympiad?

I like this. But you've only got a small limited space in the Times newspaper! You're posting/talking as if you owned a chess magazine like 'New in chess' .. lol

Again. It comes down to your readership. Who are they ? .. and do you jump thru hoops to please them?

Ron: <LIFE Master AJ: MTEL gone, Linares cancelled, and this is the last year for Melody Amber?!?!? What's happening to chess in the international arena?>

Also the Mainz chess classic has ended.

I give two reasons: first, a weak economy and second, the person who is head of FIDE.

Leaving aside the issue whether Kadaffi should be bombed, most people in the civilized world think that he is at least a nut. And our FIDE President wanted to hold a major tournment--one that had direct bearing on the World Championship no less--in Libya.

MaxxLange: <I give two reasons: first, a weak economy and second, the person who is head of FIDE>

it's also possible that the heirs of the wealthy patrons who sponsored some of these tournaments have come into control of the checkbook, and they don't want to keep paying for them. I heard a rumor that this is what happened with Melody Amber.

Putting up a dozen top GMs, plus their families, in an elite European resort, to play blindfold and rapid chess for 2 weeks - that has to be pretty expensive. A million or two Euros, easily: straight down the chess drain!

LIFE Master AJ: Ray - don't even know what a twitter is or how I would get there. (pointers?) - aj

PS You said "my twitter site."

Mar-29-11  Jim Bartle: That makes two of us, AJ. Actually, I know what a twitter is, but I don't send or read them.

ray keene: twitter is the fastest growing communications device on the internet at this time-if you look at my page here on the right hand side just below my bio data you will see a direct link to my Times twitter site-try also looking up twitter on wikipedia for example-i think you will find it interesting-it also links to facebook-so if you look at my facebook page you will see that my postings all link back to my twitter site.

HeMateMe: The more time people spend reading twitters, the less time they will have for reading fine papers like the London Times.

I just hope GM Keene knows that his actions will reduce the current event awareness of England's populace, which could have the long term result of lowering standards in public schools, culminating in a devaluation of the Pound. And furthermore....

Mar-30-11  SimonWebbsTiger: Ray is tweeting? Is there any truth that Ray Keene was the last person to drop the quill and foolscap at the Times, grudingly at that too? ;o)

Mar-30-11  Marmot PFL: The wisdom of the ages compressed into byte sized portions of 125 characters or less.
Mar-30-11  fab4: Amazing how 'Twitter' is kinda, well exploding, in a revolutionary way. When it first appeared, the joke was you had folks 'tweeting' such mundane things.. going to the supermarket/loo/bus stop ect... now ,I feel like I'm missing out ! It really has taken off..
Mar-30-11  bartonlaos: <ray keene>

That's quite a splendid-looking icon you've placed here, which links to your twitter feed!

ray keene: thanks-i will give an example of the power of twitter-when the japanese tsunami recently threatened remote pacific islands i sought in vain for information as to whether it wd overrun tuvalu. eventually i searched on twitter and within minutes i discovered various tweets from tuvalu itself explaining that the tsunami wd bypass them!
Mar-30-11  fab4: Communication! Anything which empowers it ....
Mar-30-11  Lennonfan: <fab4>...a 16yr old kid addressing GM keene..< Again it comes down to your readership..who are they? and will you jump thru hoops to please them?> Fab...do you actually know how long GM keene's been writing his column for the times?? I think the readers will spk for themselves, and im guessing your not one of them?? <aJ goldsby>...in one of your above posts to mr keene you told him i may be a cheat and advise him to check my game for duplicates before publication(which i welcome!)...everybody on this site baits you as your an object of ridicule, and to accuse me of submitting a game that isn't mine is downright offensive....your a despicable little man,who will do anything for attention and your jealousy and lie's know no bounds at all...in future address me,or anything about me you have to say,on one of your many humerous pages... GM keene...i apologise for addressing these two ppl on your page, but sometimes i need to defend myself against unsubstantiated claims from ppl like this.. All the best
Lennonfan..
