lost in space: wow, no kibitzing on this side. I saw Peter live playing a draw against Karpow in the early 1980ies. At at that time Karpow the THE BEST PLAYER ON THIS SMALL PLANET

whiteshark: <lost in space> Was it Karpov vs P Ostermeyer, 1983 ? Do/Did you live in Hannover or Lower Saxonia (then)?

  lost in space: Hi <whiteshark>,

You are most probaly right. This is what I can remember:

Karpow with white, Peter playing the sizilian defence. Mr. Ostermayer was extermely quite and calm, smiling a bit at final end and enjoying the applaus. After the draw Karpow jumped up and run away. The game took place somewhere in Germany but I don't know exaktly were.

In 1983 I was studying chemistry in Karlsruhe and was still playing activly OTB chess in Frankenthal, Pfalz.

Gosh, long time ago.
