Grandmaster. He won at Sevilla (1992) [brasilbase-1], and two strong opens in Brazil, the First Itau Cup (1997) [brasilbase-2], 1,0 pt ahead of Jaime Sunye Neto, Rafael Duailibe Leitao, Henry Urday Caceres, Alonso Zapata, Maxim Sorokin and Guillermo Soppe, and four years later the Fifth Itau Cup (2001) [brasilbase-3]. Sub-champion of Argentina (1997). Placed 2nd at the Zone 2.5 (South American Zone) tournament that took place in Cordoba Argentina, 29th August - 9th. September 1998, qualifying for the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (1999), where he lost in the first round to Vladislav Tkachiev.
