Jan Plachetka, born in Trencin, was awarded the IM title in 1973 and the GM title in 1978. He was 1st= at Polanica Zdroj 1975, 1st at Sofia 1979, 1st at Trnava 1979 and 1st= at Strasbourg 1985. He also played on the Czech Olympiad teams from 1980 to 1986.

It should be mentioned also that in 1982 he was very worthy member of silver medallist Czechoslovak team on the Luzern Olympiad together with Hort, Smejkal, Ftacnik, Jansa and Ambroz.
