IGOR NAUMKIN
(born Aug-10-1965, died Jul-13-2022, 56 years old) Russia

[what is this?]

Grandmaster Igor Gennadyevich Naumkin was born in Moscow in 1965, he started playing chess at the age of 5, and his father taught him the first moves. His whole life was devoted to chess. Perhaps he realized that this was his destiny when, at the age of 17, he defeated four of the nine Grandmasters in a closed tournament at the Moscow Championship. He became an International Master in 1988 and a Grandmaster in 1990. In his career, he defeated two legends such as Bronstein and Tal, and also fought Carlsen.

Naumkin was winner of the 2010 Livigno Open and the 6th Biella Open in 2015.

Nov-17-03  aragorn69: Another "aberration" by chessmetrics.com : Naumkin is n°4-5 in the world for a brief spell during the concluding months of 1987. Before and after, he is consistenly ranked between 50 and 100.

Can anyone explain that ??

Fusilli: Reading about his lifestyle, it is not very surprising that this man died at the age he did: https://timesofmalta.com/article/ch....

Solitary life (no family supports), traveling all the time, living off a suitcase, competing all the time... From the photos of him one suspects an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.

Remember, fellow middle-aged men... Eat your veggies and fruits, exercise (walk! Say no to drive throughs!), work on your mental health, surround yourselves with people who love you (and love them back!) Dance, sing, and laugh!
