VLASTIMIL BABULA
(born Oct-02-1973) Czech Republic

[what is this?]
Grandmaster (1997). Czech champion in 1993 and second at the World Junior Championship of 1993. He won at Pardubice in 2003 and 2007. Babula qualified for the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (1999) by coming =1st at the Krynica Zonal Tournament 1.4, but was eliminated in the first round by Tal Shaked. He also qualified for the World Cup (2011) through his result at the European Individual Championships (2010), however, he was eliminated in the first round by Ukrainian super-GM Zahar Efimenko. He has played for the Czech Republic in every Olympiad since 1994, and won an individual bronze medal for the reserve board at the Chess Olympiad (2010) in Khantiy Mansiysk.

Jul-29-07  Mameluk: The only player so far to win Pardubice open twice - 2003 and 2007. This year on better tie-breaks ahead of compatriot Laznicka on 7.5/9.
