Jul-27-17  hemy: His name is Itzhak Aloni, not Izak Aloni.
<was Israeli champion in 1945> - this was copied to his CG bio from Wikipedia!

It happen 3 years before Israel state was born? In 1945 he was champion of "Eretz-Israel" (Palestine).

Nov-22-23  bavaria: I saw Itzhak Aloni in the Lasker Chess Club in Tel Aviv in the early 1980ies. He was there almost every day. As I was, let's say, an average chess player he was not very much interested in me. But one day we played about ten blitz games, of which he won about 75 per cent. Hadn't he been rather old, I guess he would have won all the games. What I find so interesting, and which I did not know then: he was born in Austria-Hungary. His hometown became Polish after WW1. After Ribbentropp and Molotov had met this town was invaded by the Soviet army. His last name originally was Schächter (kosher butcher). He participated in the 1937 Polish championship where he won a dead-lost game against Najdorf. Regrettably - in the 1960ies - he lost both games against a certain Robert James Fischer.
