Calli: <whiteshark> Why don't you write Chessgames and get authorization to do the biographies? Maybe you didn't realize that all the bios are user written by people who get special permission to do them.

whiteshark: <Calli> Oh no, a good suggestion(!), but that's a burden, to heavy for me. It requires good English language skills, s.th. I surely don't posses. Anyhow very nice that you've been thinking about it. :D

Calli: Just cut and paste what you have already written. It is better than you think and as good as most of them. If anyone wishes to add, they can also edit the bio. My thought is to get the info at the top rather than in the thread.

Chessical: From Deutscher Schachbund: "He was champion of the Frankfurt in 1930 and in 1937, and winner of the the Mittel Rheinische Cup in 1934. In 1939 Benkner moved to Saarbrücken. In the Saar, he scored many successes. He won the Saarland Championship 11 times, the last time being in 1967. In the 1950's, he represented the then still independent Saar in the 1952 Chess Olympiad in Helsinki, at Amsterdam in 1954 and in Moscow in 1956 and achieved major successes against leading grandmasters. Unfortunately, he was unable to fulfill his greatest wish by gaining the title of International Master. This was due, no doubt, to a serious war injury that had cost him his left arm, and led to health problems that forced him to withdraw from tournament chess in 1967.

In his later years, Otto Benkner was burdened by caring for his his wife who was seriously ill and bed-ridden, this left him little scope to indulge his hobby. Nevertheless, he reached the ripe old age of 87. This allowed him, from 1948 to 1990, to look after the chess section of Saarbrücken newspaper and so to attract a wide readership. Otto Benkner has earned exceptional merit through the popularization of chess in the Saarland".

Apr-05-19  Nosnibor: A very talented player who for health reasons had to retire from serious chess. It is noted he beat Larsen,Pachman and Yanofsky whilst drawing with Olafsson twice.
