Hans Bouwmeester was born in 1929 in Haarlem, the Netherlands. In 1954, he became an IM. He is most of all famous for his chess books. A whole generation of chess players grew up with one of his books in the hand. He was, like Euwe, teacher (mathematics). In 1969 he got the title of International Correspondance Chess Master. He also got the Euwe ring for 5 years.
