Ivan Mikhailovich Yeropov (Ivans Jeropovs) was a Soviet chess player who played for Latvia and Kyrgyzstan at various times. Master of Sports of the USSR in chess (1971). Winner of the Kyrgyzstan championships (1969, 1972). Coach.
Biography
He began playing chess at the age of sixteen. He was an officer in the Soviet Army. In the 1950s, he served in Latvia. He won the Daugavpils City Chess Championship several times and twice participated in the finals of the Latvian Chess Championship (1953, 1956). His best result was 10th place in 1953 (won by Mikhail Tal).
In the 1960s and 1970s, he served in Kyrgyzstan. He won the Kyrgyzstan Chess Championship twice (1967, 1972), and in 1968 he shared 3rd-4th place. In 1971, in the Moldovan city of Beltsy, he took second place in the All-Union Candidate Master Chess Tournament. He represented Kyrgyzstan twice in the USSR Team Chess Championship (1967, 1972).
In the second half of the 1970s, he left the Soviet Army and moved to Riga for permanent residence. He worked as a coach at the Riga Chess School and was involved in working with the Latvian youth chess team. He died in 1987 and was buried in Riga at the Plavnieki Cemetery.
