  egilarne: Congrats to Leif Øgaard!
Now he becomes Norways 9th GM.
(Given the possibilities of today he would have been GM in the 1970-ies.)

egilarne: Leif Øgaards GM title concludes a fantastic weekend for Norwegian chess: Magnus Carlsens result in Morelia-Linares and Jon Ludvig Hammers GM-norm in Capelle le Grande.
Mar-11-07  angslo: I wonder if he is the oldest player ever to acquire gm norm in chess history. This is really great.

Appaz: But does he not also need to raise his rating above 2500 before getting the GM-title? I don't think he has ever achieved that.

Interbond: Øgaard has been over 2500, actually I think it was 2510, in 1982 or 1983?

Interbond: In round 8 in his last tournament. Norwegian Team Telio series,Øgaard played against GM Kjetil A. Lie. Lie played white 1.d4 d5 2.e4 , but refused to Blackmar Diemer gambit at played c6.Lie won a fine game in his typical attacking style, but of course it would have been very interesting to see at BDG at this level!

waustad: Chess metrics rated him 34th in the world in 1982. Their number was 2664, though their numbers and actual Elo ratings do not always gibe.

Appaz: <waustad> Even if those numbers are correct or not, it gives an indication as to how good he really was at his peak.

His bio should mention that he is now a GM.

Jan-05-13  Kikoman: Happy Birthday GM Leif Ogaard. :D
Jan-05-13  Kikoman: <The GM title was finally approved at FIDE's presidential board meeting in Tallinn on 22-24 June 2007.> :D
