DR CAREL CARSTEN
(born 1889, died May-07-1945) Netherlands

[what is this?]
Dr Cornelis (Carel) Carsten was an Amsterdam dermatologist who joined the V.A.S.¹ club in 1921. He died tragically shortly after the Netherlands were liberated in a confrontation between the BS (Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten), a combination of Dutch resistance fighters, and the Grüne Polizei, the German police. Carsten was an innocent bystander.

Nov-17-12  sneaky pete: <Stonehenge> No, he died in another incident the next day. "Twee (sic) dagen na de bevrijding, op 8 Mei, werd hij door een verdwaalden kogel, afgevuurd in een schermutseling tussen eenige B.S.'ers en de "Grüne", doodelijk getroffen, toen hij in den laten avond een luchtje wilde scheppen." The Dam shooting was May 7.

  Stonehenge: <Pau> Thanks!

So it's Cornelis (Carel) Carsten

I wonder how he survived the war (and then to die two days after the end of it), being a Jew.

perfidious: <Stonehenge> It is indeed surprising that Dr Carsten did not wind up transported to the East, the way things went.
