Oct-10-05  WTHarvey: Here are some puzzles from Andrey's games not given here: http://www.wtharvey.com/zont.html
Oct-10-05  AlexanderMorphy: Why does this databse choose these type of players as player of the day..i mena the guy might be good but why don't they put up more players like Fisher, Capa, Tal, Kasparov etc?
Oct-10-05  ughaibu: How long could Chessgames.com keep selecting a 'player of the day' if they stuck to the players everybody's familiar with? And what's the point of having someone famous as player of the day? If you want to look at the games of Tal or Fischer use the search button.

Benzol: I wonder how many kibitzers actually look at the Player Of The Day's games if it isn't somebody well known?
Oct-10-05  AlexanderMorphy: <Benzol> exactly...i don;t mean a famous player everyday...but at least once a week a chess great to be named the player of the day. People who are new to chess and the site can learn about this player and look for his games!

IMlday: <Benzol> Often the less well-known the better (psychostrategically;) imo. <ughaibu> If you don't take membership at CG you miss some excellent features, like the full 'openings explorer', which would show you why Zontak is interesting. Club players who hold their own against GM's will always be interesting.

Benzol: Do kibitzers look at the Birthday list?

There is a good selection today.

<WTHarvey> is great at finding puzzles that aren't in the database. e.g. Ortvin Sarapu was the Player Of The Day on the 4th of October and there were two games postions that are not in the database yet. One was against FM Bruce Watson ( who was playing in the North Shore Open this last weekend BTW ) and the other I can't remember seeing before. But apart from Mr Harvey only <Granite> actually commented on one of Ortvin's games ( one of his wins against Cecil John Seddon Purdy from their 1952 Match ).

Oct-10-05  lopium: Anyway, when does Zontakh was born?
Oct-10-05  atripodi: <Anyway, when does Zontakh was born?> 1970 according to FIDE. Also, could you give a brief explanation of Zontakh's style IMlday?
Oct-11-05  lopium: Thanksxz atripodi.
