 | | Ron: Hello GM Shulman:
I came across this game of yours
A Labuckas vs Y Shulman, 1995
and I'm impressed, you sacrificed a knight on move 23 and your opponent resigned on move 34. |
 |
| Sep-02-08 | | zoren: this guy is extremely tough and strong, considering US tournaments having the reputation of "stunting" the growth of their top players with their Swiss tournaments |

| Apr-27-11 | | UrVileWedge: Sorry to hear about the result. I've been a Shulman fan for some time. About 6-7 years ago, he used to do a weekly lecture for a scholastic club called the "Great Knights" on weekends, and I had the privilege of attending most of them. Sharp, sharp stuff, and it helped my game immensely. One of the sessions, we were running a bit ahead of schedule, and he got out a clock and gave 5-1 time odds to anyone who was finished with the exercises. I took him up on one game, and somehow, I managed to get ahead on an exchange. I start trading off pieces, thinking to myself "Sure, he's a GM, but he's got a dead lost position. You can only lose this if you screw it up." So I double-checked all my moves, started exchanging pieces, and shoving my e pawn down to his end of the board. I was so careful and exacting that 2 moves before I forced him to have to give up a piece to stop the queen, my flag fell, to the great amusement of everyone involved. |

| Apr-29-11 | | eternaloptimist: I hope that GM Shulman has a happy birthday today. I'm sure it would be a much happier 1 if he would have won another u. s. chess championship this year. He has won it once though (in 2008). Although he has been the runner-up 2 years in a row so that's a very good accomplishment in itself! |

 | | chesstoplay: Yury came home from the US Championship on his birthday. So on his birthday, he was able to hold his son Gabriel (born on Easter Sunday) for the first time. What a great present for one of the true ambassadors of the game! :) |
 |
| May-30-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: I sent Shulman an e-mail ... congratulating him on two straight years of excellent results. (Only Kamsky was able to stop Shulman, and - everyone knows - Gata is a chess MONSTER!!!) Congrats Yury. (Thank you for the very nice e-mail.) |
