Andrei Vladimirovich Kharitonov was born in Ivanovo*. He received the IM title in 1980 and became a GM in 1993. He was coach-second of Irina Levitina in the match for the title of world champion against Maya Chiburdanidze in 1984. He also advised Anatoly Karpov in the 1990 World Championship match. After completing his sports career, he was engaged in coaching and working with children. The last 10 years of his life he had serious problems with his cardiovascular system and kidneys. He was repeatedly hospitalized, but refused an operation. He died after a long and serious illness in the late evening of January 13, 2012.
