EKATERINA KOVALEVSKAYA

Kovalevskaya is an IM and a WGM. She won the Women’s Russian Championship in 1994 and 2000 and was runner up in the European Championships (Women) in 2000 and 2001. She was a member of the Russian Olympic team in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004 which won the silver medal in 1998 and the bronze in 2000 and 2004.

Kovalevskaya reached the semi finals of the Women's World Championship in 2000, losing to eventual World Championship winner Xie Jun. She became Women's Vice-World Champion in 2004 after defeating Koneru Humpy in the semi final and losing the final match to Antoaneta Stefanova. She also played in the FIDE Women's World Championship (2006) reaching the quarter final, but was defeated in the rapid playoff games by Yuhua Xu. She contested the FIDE Knock-Out Women's World Championship (2012), but lost in the first round tiebreaker to IM/WGM Alisa Galliamova.
