Nino Kirov Ivanov was born in 1945 in Gorna Dzhumaya (now Blagoevgrad), Bulgaria. Awarded the IM title in 1971 and the GM title in 1975 he was Bulgarian Champion in 1978 after a play-off. He played on the Bulgarian Olympiad teams of 1974 and 1984 and in tournaments he was 1st at Coka 1973, 1st= at Vrsac 1974, 2nd= at Potsdam 1985 and 3rd= at Rome 1986.
