acirce: Wow. This just feels unreal. Ok, it's not news to me that a lot of people die prematurely, but it touches you directly when it happens in the chess community like this. Very sad.
Jun-09-08  pawnofdoom: RIP Karen Asrian :*(

I was very surprised by all this. I've been followign Asrians games ever since I learned that Karen was also a male name, and when he first became Armenian champion... Great loss for the chess world. And he wasn't even 30 years old yet

micartouse: Prayers for the family, friends, and fans of the Armenian champion. RIP GM Asrian.
Jun-09-08  mang00neg: RIP...
Jun-09-08  tud: RIP He was so young. Incredible.
Jun-09-08  shortsight: I agree with acirce that when something happens to chess community, it touches me more. Asrian was born on the same year as me, it feels so tragic to know some one as young as me was dealt with a cruel fate.

Strongest Force: RIP to a great player... i hope his death is investigated because he was too young to suffer such a fate.
Jun-09-08  malthrope: It's truly a very sad day for Chess... :(

I'll shall always remember - Grandmaster Karen Asrian - with his wonderful Chess games, that great warm 'smile' and his tenacious and dedicated team spirit which helped lead the Armenian Chess Team winning the 37th Chess Olympics in Turin 2006. :)

Jun-10-08  jmi: Such a young life gone. :(

RIP Karen Asrian.

Jun-10-08  arsen387: He was one of the heroes of Armenia in that golden 2006 Olimpic champion team, and his premature death was a huge loss and touched everyone deeply. A little consolation could be that during his eventful career he was surrounded by respect and greatfulness. It's a shame that only for such a short time.

RIP, you will remain in our hearts and will always be remembered :*(

IMlday: Aside from his Gold Medal for the team at Turin 2006, Karen Asrian also had a 5th-board Gold from Yerevan 1996 where ArmeniaB was all juniors. He was 16 and scored 10-2. Levon Aronian made 50% on board 6 for the kids (as we called them). At Turin Asrian's big contribution was consistently holding draws with Black against the strongest teams. RIP
