Åge Vestøl born 1922 was Norwegian champion 1949. He passed away 30 March 2008.

<Aage Vestøl 1922-2008>

  Tabanus: Aage Vestoel is same player as Aage Vestol, the two should be merged. Here he defeats Gligoric:

Dec-23-10  YoungEd: I'd never heard of this player before today. I guess that made me a Vestol virgin.

  Penguincw: R.I.P. Aage Vestol.
Dec-23-13  Eastfrisian: .. and no foto.
Dec-23-13  YoungEd: Once I saw the player of the day, I came here to make a "clever" pun--I had just forgotten that I'd made the same one three years earlier! YoungEd ain't so young...
Dec-23-13  Nosnibor: It would appear that Vestol won the Norwegian Championship on his first appearance ahead of the previous year`s champion,Barda who scored 4.5 points to Vestol`s 5 points.Due to this result he played on top board for Norway in an international match against Sweden where he was soundly beaten twice by Stahlberg whereas Barda won both of his games against Skold.Why are there no games from him winning the national title in 1949 shown here?

Dec-23-19  areknames: < Vestol represented Norway in all five Olympiads from 1950-1958 (72 games total), either on board one or board two.> He also defeated both Larsen and Gligoric in 1954, it does seem a bit odd that there are no more games of his after 1958.
Dec-23-19  areknames: < men deltok ikke i turneringssjakk etter NM i 1964.> Ok, so he didn't play tournament chess after 1964. Fair enough.
