Nov-03-11  waustad: His blunder against Moro in the European Team Championship 2011 will make him known by a lot of people. That is not the sort of publicity one really wants.

diagonal: maybe the most notable tournament win of moldovan DMITRY SVETUSHKIN:

<17th Bora Kostic Memorial in Vrsac 2012>: Kiril Georgiev, Predrag Nikolic, Dmitry Svetushkin, Nikola Sedlak, Ognjen Cvitan and Boban Bogosavljevic played in this traditional invitation tournament in tribute to Bora Kostic, the first Serbian Grandmaster.

Borislav Kostic (1887 - 1963) was born in Vrsac, grandmaster awarded in 1950 (on its inaugural list of only 27 players).

The 1st Kostic Memorial has been held in 1964, the 17th (and last to-date) in 2012, mostly in a two years cycle, with some longer breaks, all played in Vrsac.

Svetushkin won this 17th edition in 2012 outright and convincingly:

Tournament record winners at Vrsac are <Dragoljub Velimirovic> and <Ivan Ivanisevic> with two wins each.

Brazilian prodigy <Henrique Mecking> won ahead of <Lajos Portisch> in 1971, <Michael Stean> won at Vrsac in 1979, <Milan Matulovic> won the first edition in 1964. Maybe the most prominent participant at Vrsac was former World Champion <Tigran Petrosian> in 1981 (tournament won by <Gyula Sax> ahead of <Jan Smejkal> who won it in 1977).

What an elegant tournament homepage!
