Harvestman: What a run Sargissian is on at the Olympiad! 6/7, with no losses.

Out of curiosity, what (and when) was his last loss at an Olympiad?

(Suppose I could try looking this up myself...)

Harvestman: Answering my own question, it looks like it was 2004. Ganguly vs G Sargissian, 2004
Nov-20-08  Eban: Sargissian transforms into Kasparov during Olympics!!
Nov-20-08  Udit Narayan: he looks like a young kasparov
Nov-21-08  arsen387: during Olimpiads he is better than Kasparov:) The soul of our team and the main contributor in terms of points. And his game against Grischuk is a real gem. The position in the end is like from a chess composition. Amazingly beuatiful!
Nov-21-08  shintaro go: Yes, for some reason he becomes a point scoring machine in Olympiads. But in Corus B, he was -3 and finished in last place.
Nov-23-08  praddy06: Sargissian has a live rating of 2673.9 +31.9 a massive jump has to be among 2700 club soon the way he plays.
Nov-24-08  ArmeniaNL: <praddy06:> where can i find live chess ratings
Nov-24-08  khursh: <ArmeniaNL:> http://chess.liverating.org/ but it is calculated only for 2700+ club
Nov-24-08  ArmeniaNL: <praddy06:> how do you get that rating of sargissian 2673.9 ? If what you say is corrent then his name should be in the live rating list.
Nov-25-08  manchild: You can calculate the live rating yourself. I don't know how but you definitely can. What he means to say is that his rating of 2673.9 is after adding his performance from this Olympiad (+31.9). His name is not on the list because he has yet to break the 2700 barrier which the list is limited to. However, Sargissian always outperforms in this type of team competition because he has a very strong team spirit. His individual results so far this year has been rather disappointing.
Nov-26-08  arsen387: Much thanks to our golden boy Sargissian who again performed on a fantastic level with the highest rating performance among all players, 2869, with 9 points out of 11 games.
Dec-30-08  arsen387: Gabriel Sargissian was voted as the best sportsman of the year 2008 in Armenia. Definitely he deserved it!
Apr-01-09  ARMENIA: Gabriel Sargissan is not asleep... he is waiting to strike on the world of chess once more!

Open Defence: a real team player.. though I wish he had a bit more of an enterprising repetoire
Apr-02-09  arsen387: <a real team player> yeah, something switches in him when he plays for Armenia in Olympiads and performs on a highest level possible beating players like Morozevich and Grischuk,G Sargissian vs Morozevich, 2006 , G Sargissian vs Grischuk, 2008 (especially the latter is a real masterpiece). This one is also an outstanding game from European Championship G Sargissian vs C Lupulescu, 2007. As I know he qualified this year for World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, I hope he'll do well there, this time on an individual level. I'm sure he has enough talent even to win it, he only needs to close his eyes for a while before each game and imagine he's playing in the Olympiad :)
May-23-09  laskersteinitz: This guy is at the Chicago Open; he's the highest-rated player there, in front of Van Wely, Shulman, Shabalov and Sadvakasov (the 2009 Foxwoods champ).
Jun-03-09  Vakus: Yep, and he shared the first place with Ehlvest i guess.
Oct-05-09  ArmeniaNL: I realized that Gabi is good in team competitions, he is the hiden bomb of the team, alas in individual competitions somehow he does not manage to produce top results, but I love his chess style,
Oct-05-09  Davolni: What a nice win against Caruana!!!

Nicely done Gabriel!

Oct-30-09  ArmeniaNL: GAbi and Tigran are the driving force of Armenian national team, hope they perform even better in olympiad

  twinlark:

Well done and congratulations to GM Sargissian for helping his team Armenia to another gold medal in the Istanbul Olympiad, their third in the last four Olympiads.

Sargissian is one of Armenia's reliable achievers.
