zarg: If the leader Dmitry Andreikin is Hammer's next opponent, a loss strike me as more likely than a win.

Don't be sure of that. I have followed his games. The higher the ELO of Hammer's opponents, the more he is likely to win! :-)

rogge: Yeah, I've noticed that too.
Aug-15-10  slomarko: okay lets see, classification before last round:
1.-2. Andreikin, Sjugirov 9,5
3.-5. Matlakov, Salem, Hammer 9

pairings:
Hammer -Andreikin
Salem - Sjugirov
Matlakov - Negi

can Hammer get a medal with a draw, i mean theoretically? where is frogbert?

<where is frogbert?> Preparing his computer for the ultimate challenge ;)

Aug-15-10  slomarko: <<where is frogbert?> Preparing his computer for the ultimate challenge ;)> well let's hope frogbert makes one of his precise analysis. but i do suspect Hammer <has> to win to get a medal.

Rolfo: Then he has every reason to play for a win !
Aug-15-10  frogbert: well, by winning hammer can take away the win from the top seed andreikin. i'd think that would be some kind of motivation, too. ;o)

of course, if hammer wins and sjugirov manages a draw or better, hammer will have finished the event undefeated, successful on 1st board in the last round, without playing the eventual winner (sjugirov). but that's huge swisses i guess ... :o)

Aug-16-10  slomarko: draw.

MrMelad: Hi <gmhammer> Congrats of a very good game against the world #1, I was wondering if you are willing to share what it feels to be one move from winning against Carlsen?
Aug-28-10  gmhammer: I'm sure I'll post some impressions after the tournament on my blog.

Best wishes, Jon Ludvig

Aug-28-10  felixd: Awwww... You will probably remember this blunder for the rest of your life!

MrMelad: Thanks <gmhammer>, and good luck tomorrow!

Must be pretty great to play both the world champion and world #1 on the same day.

Aug-28-10  Oxnard: Oh for goodness sake, it wasn't THAT bad. This - Deep Fritz vs Kramnik, 2006 - on the other hand, is an historic blunder that all players can draw solace from. In fact it's similar to the biblical story - Kramnik made one giant blunder so that all our future blunders would be forgiven :)

alexmagnus: <Oxnard> In F Bellini vs V Gashimov, 2002 both players overlook the "Kramnikian" mate. ;)
