|May-22-06|| ||madlydeeply: All you book reviewers have no idea why people write books in this country. (USA). If she gets enough CHESS BITCH press then out comes a CHESS BITCH MOVIE!!! She's probably hobnobbin' with Uma and Quentin right now. LA baby, its all about the "pub"|
|Sep-19-06|| ||Albertan: <madlydeeply: What's CHESS BITCH doing these days? CHESS BITCHIN?>|
According to her official website: (http://www.jennifershahade.com/news...) Jennifer Shahade was hired in February to be the new
web editor in chief of the United States Chess Federation. The USCF website at http:// www.uschess.org has been redesigned. At her website, Jennifer states: "This, along with freelance writing is my focus now, which is why there are no upcoming chess tournaments on my roster."
|Sep-25-06|| ||WannaBe: She has been awarded the title of WGM. http://www.fide.com/news.asp?id=843 Congratulations!!|
|Sep-25-06|| ||technical draw: <WannaBe>I think she was awarded the WGM title last year.|
|Oct-16-06|| ||pazzed paun: One of the more interesting themes from J.S. book is that she interviews a large number of Chinese and Russian
Women (whose chess achievements far surpass anything by U.S. women) and they profess zero interest in feminism!! It does make it seem very odd all the ponderings in the book about feminism and how unproductive it is.|
|Nov-10-06|| ||Chess Classics: <technical draw: <WannaBe>I think she was awarded the WGM title last year.> Yeah WannaBe, I thought everybody knew =)|
|Nov-20-06|| ||pazzed paun: OK what is even farther beyond I do not get it (EVER)?
J. S. has a blog on the USCF site(WHY) And on NOV 7 she talks about voting--HUNH? |
where is the chess?
and when does she announce that her rating has peaked and she has no interest in playing competive chess ever again?
|Dec-29-06|| ||Calli: Interview with Jennifer
|Jan-04-07|| ||pazzed paun: <Calli> thanks for the link! |
Why would it be considered reasonable for a 2300 rated player to expect to make money playing competive chess?
|Jan-04-07|| ||Brown: <pazzed paun>
Just curious; Why do you have so much interest in Ms. Shahade? You seem to be angry with her, what she writes, what she expects, etc.... Does she in fact plan to not play ever again, and if so, does she need to announce this to the world?
|Jan-05-07|| ||pazzed paun: <Brown> interesting question...
I do not feel angry but I do think there is a certain amount of media manipulation going on here involving her writing and interviews ... call it hype if you will..|
there are a large number of much higher rated players who have many more valuable chess-related things to say but they do not seem to have a forum for their views-
Very often J.S. comes off as very naive about many chess related things and there are many other players who much better informed and have more perpective on such subjects.
I feel it was dishonest of her to not mention that she knew she was not going to play in the U.S. Championship just before her book was published. Her handlers may have believed it would hurt publicity chances for the book.
try and manipulate the media and they will manipulate you!!.... the machine always wins!!
|Jan-05-07|| ||whiskeyrebel: pazzed paun, I enjoyed her book a lot, but there's no doubt she gets extra attention due to: 1) her gender 2) she comes from a chess family of note and perhaps most important 3) the fact she lives in NYC and knows the right movers and shakers in the U.S. chess scene. I do think she's done a good job at the USCF site. It looked like @*&^ before she took over. Of course it's true there are others who could have done better perhaps, but I don't think for a job like her's you'd neccessarily favor somebody simply because they're a stronger player. There are plenty of twisted loners with 2500+ ratings who might entertain hardcore players like you and I, but seem less approachable to newer players/readers.|
|Jan-05-07|| ||Archives: So this is the female woman that likes chess and poker.|
Sounds like my kinda gal -)
|Jan-19-07|| ||Brown: <pazzed paun>
I'm still not certain I understand your precise interest in and seeming contempt for J.S., but I don't wish to pry too much.
<whiskeyrebel> Thanks for the interesting response. I learned a bit from it, and it seems J.S. is making some positive changes in the chess world.
|Jan-19-07|| ||RookFile: Jen happens to be rated 2322 FIDE. Very strong player in my book, a lot can be learned from her games.|
|Oct-11-07|| ||HeMateMe: Hi Jennifer. I recently read your book Chess Bitch, very entertaining. |
Regarding theories on differences between men and women playing strengths, maybe the best theory I've heard is that, as young girls, the overwhelmingly desire is harmony, to be part of something, be part of the group. If the girl beats the boy at chess, she is sort of pushing herself away from boys, away from the social scene. So, a victory at chess is a defeat in the social game. I don't know if thats an exact science, but it kind of makes sense.
Being a fellow New Yorker, I couldn't help think of your comments about having a loft in the DUMBO area. I think you have to give up your first born now to get an apartment in one of those buildings, so hang on to it if you can!
|May-09-08|| ||Maroczy: What book are you planning to publish next Jennifer? Best of luck in your writing career. Been to the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle lately?|
|Dec-09-08|| ||whiteshark: "Chess is a zero-sum game that rewards ruthlessness, not cooperation."|
-- Jennifer Shahade
|Dec-31-08|| ||Richard Taylor: Good on her for being a chess bitch! Takes courage and bitchiness! Not bad looking either...for a hot ruthless bitch.|
Does she bring a whip to the chess table!
I wonder if she has ever resigned a game by wiping all the pieces off the board as I did couple of months ago? Whoof! Boof! I went. I was really annoyed at the noise (and losing)!
|Dec-31-08|| ||WhiteRook48: that is one weird name|
|Dec-31-08|| ||Travis Bickle: Id like to take a few lessons from "The Chess Bitch" if you know what I mean. She's a cute lil lady!|
|Jan-01-09|| ||notyetagm: <Travis Bickle: Id like to take a few lessons from "The Chess Bitch" if you know what I mean. She's a cute lil lady!>|
Sorry. I am pretty sure you are not her type. :-)
|Jan-01-09|| ||Travis Bickle: <notyetagm> You seen me put the moves on "Betsy," (Cybil Shepard), didnt you?

I don't understand your comment.
