Jul-11-05  Knight13: R Pain! What R Pain s? PAIN HURTS!
Jul-11-05  farrooj: of course pain hurts. Pain is hurt. this guy is kind of frightening to face at the board. Imagine you are paired up with a guy called pain

TheAlchemist: <Imagine you are paired up with a guy called pain>

And he shows up dressed in leather and carrying a whip.

In a tournament I was paired against a guy, who was wearing a military suit with a small German flag. My friends and I joked he was a Nazi and he was going to kill me, if I beat him. Of course, I lost in about 20 moves and then ... he offered me a Beer - which I was too scared to refuse. :-)

Jul-11-05  farrooj: Once in a tournament, I got paired up with a guy that breathed heavily and I felt he was going to break my neck. He crushed my hand when I offered to shake.

Another time, a guy brought the Times magazine with him, claiming "too bad I won't be reading this because I will crush you (I was about 12 at the time)" I lasted 80 moves and had a superior position (he was in the top 20 lebanon) but lost the endgame

Another funny thing is losing to a blind guy, that made me depressed...

Jul-11-05  jamesmaskell: lol @ losing to a blind man. But then they have a lifetime of playing chess in a sense blindfolded. Why didnt you switch a few pieces when he wasnt looking?

Metallica had a few words about Pain. "Birth is pain, Life is pain, Death is pain, Its all the same". Not exactly something you want someone saying at your funeral really...

Jul-11-05  farrooj: "Who, except the gods, can live time through forever without any pain?" Aeschylus
BC 525-456 Greek Dramatist

"Pains of love be sweeter far than all the other pleasures are." Pain
Dryden, John
1631-1700 British Poet Dramatist Critic

"Pain and death are a part of life. To reject them is to reject life itself." Ellis, Havelock
1859-1939 British Psychologist

Jul-11-05  fgh: Pain, Lol. Maybe too much Beer?
Jul-11-05  fgh: At least he won his only game :-)
Jul-11-05  farrooj: he probably scared his opponent half to death
Jul-11-05  fgh: Pain should play with Love. It would be interesting to know who would win.
Jul-12-05  jamesmaskell: Thats normal practice in some places...ever heard of sadism and masochism?

whiteshark: Pain is simply the absence of pleasure. Or was it the other way round?
Jul-04-08  DukeAlba: When we post here we have to remember that <R Pain> is referring to us collectively... In that case, I will quote Dayne Cook about three things we will all collectively do...

1. We will all lie
2. We will all cry
3. And we will all take painful @#$%s

Jul-04-08  Udit Narayan: Pain is not simply the absence of pleasure, because this condition could also be applied to the state of boredom - which is often a scenario completely devoid of both pleasure and pain.

tamar: This guy could be a Royal Pain.

  whiteshark: <Udit Narayan>

Sorry for confusion by misquoting good old Arthur. Actually it's

<The two foes of human happiness R Pain and boredom. <>>

Jul-08-08  kellmano: <Whiteshark> I guess Schopenhauer is parodying Bentham - 'Mankind is placed under two sovereign masters - pleasure and pain'
Jul-08-08  kellmano: Actually, I doubt he was stupid enough to say 'two sovereign masters'.

Think I was confusing it with Mill's 'over himself, over his own mind and body, the individual is sovereign'.

Confusing Mill and Bentham is understandable. :-)

Oct-14-10  rapidcitychess: R Pain is a good teacher.
