If the opponent is somewhat weaker than you and a less-than-brilliant defender, then ultra-aggressive is what wins the game. With the theoretical "best move", you may end up drawing. Anyway, I just brought it up in response to Dr.B's thought that it might whitewash Topalov. |

| Jun-14-06 | | h1a8: Everyone is forgeting that there are positions in chess that one can either draw or be clearly losing (especially in many closed positions). Sometimes there are no inbetweens. Thus if a human can create or luckily come across such a position then Hydra will most likely draw (instead of clearly losing). Thus, Hydra as black must get some draws eventually against a very strong human. |

In this position, Hydra, or rather its handler, played the horrible 51.b5??:

The tournament director said that they first sent a letter telling Hydra that it would get a Bye on the first leg of the tiebreaks and would play on Sunday. But a second email was sent correcting the mistake, saying that Hydra will play in the first leg of the tiebreaks on Saturday. A participant however said that the tournament director told him Hydra had confirmed its participation. Sucks, I wanted to see how it'd fare against the top Rybkas, oh well. |

| Oct-24-06 | | llauro: Yes, since the Rybka has become MultiProcessor and can run in 4 or 8 highspeed (Intel) cores, it seems it's enough to crush the 32 or 64 1-or-2-year old CPUs with a (it seems) simple brute forze program. I think Zor_Champ should have used Rybka 2.1o if wanted to win the FreeStyle :) It's a pitty we will never see a Kramnik-Rybka or Topalov-Rybka or anyhuman-Rybka match. After this result, Hydra should became opensource to try to catch the Rybka! |
