 | | chancho: <tpstar> Two thumbs up, on "The Kramniad". I still believe that Kramnik is the world champ though. |
 |
| Dec-04-05 | | tpstardefender: <tpstar>, that was very funny and also a fine review before I take my Greek mythology test:) |
 |
| Dec-04-05 | | uglybird: 1 Parts of Section 5 a bit crude and not well thought out.
2 Opinion of Fischerandom probably based on insufficient imformation.
3 Kasparov deep down in his heart probably did not want rematch as second loss to Kramnik would have destroyed his reputation.
4 Last word is that Topalov turned down Kramnik challenge.
5 A good effort overall with some good inside jokes. |

Where do you get this stuff from? It is hilarious. You have to be my favorite kibitzer on the entire website, because you are helpful, but a main chuck of that conclusion comes from posts like those two. *falls over as he finds out he covers 2 other pages*

 | | Richard Taylor: <Tpstar> <others> Great "poem" (apart from its chessic Satiric value) and interesting discusion on the Illiad -I read that and the various plays - yes the connection to the killing of Iphigenia -there are more than one take on that but that one - the metaphor of the evil of war and jealousy etc -is the take that starts the Orestian trilogy - I have only read them in translation - You have a very detailed kowledge of the Illiad - I know the Dunciad (not word for word -lol! )amazing Pope should spend such a long labour of what is really trivia -and yet it is almost (but surely it is not!) a great poem - a piss take on epics as well as an attack on his critics and so on. he spent so much time - and it was a financial success on his translation of the Illiad. Chessically I see there is almost certainly to be a match Kramnik and Topalov. (ICC "news" email) |

People forget that 2004 & 2005 were one continuous argument about Kramnik, and not a particularly pleasant one. I returned to chess and joined this site in 2004, and knew Kasparov was waiting to play a semi-final against Ponomariov or Kasimdzhanov, then Brissago 2004 led to Kramnik's four-player playoff demand, and suddenly Kasparov abruptly retired after Linares 2005. This was a huge shock to me, so I went back and read many of the discussions posted here plus all of Kramnik's interviews to determine what really happened. When FIDE announced San Luis 2005, I could tell they were on the right track. Like I wrote before, anybody who has ever had to fire someone understood what they were doing. The Kramniad was a tribute to Kasparov and his career, fully acknowledging his shameless nature, yet also greatly motivated by several personal attacks against <Susan Polgar> and other name players here. Lots of inside jokes were missed, like the <Knight13> material (nobody got GOOD GAME) and <kvcs> who I don't believe ever read it. Lest you worry, the sequel will be even dandier. When the time is right. It is disappointing that so many people have posted so many thousands of times without following any of the site traditions. Eight years later, <OhioChessFan> and I are the only ones who celebrate the thousands. |
