FIDE awarded Brunello the Grandmaster title in 2010. He won the Tata Steel (Group C) (2013) with an 11/13 score, one of the best performances in the 75-year history of the Wijk aan Zee tournament. He is the author of the book "Attacking the Spanish" (2009).
